Today I had a 4-way conference call for a position I applied for a few weeks ago. Each person was in a different location (I thought the 3 interviewers would be in the same room) and it was a timed phone call. It lasted just 30 minutes & it would buzz at 15 minutes, 10, 5 and 1 to let us know how we were doing on time.
Anyhow, I felt like I didn't get to say a whole lot during the interview. One person pretty much dominated the conversation telling me about the position, expectations, etc. They asked if I had any questions so I asked a few that hadn't already been answered while they were talking. Then they asked if I wanted to hear about the salary, leave, benefits, etc. I told them that I hadn't planned to ask about that this early in the process, but if they wanted to share it with me I'd be interested to know. As we got buzzed for the last minute (they said they usually don't get pushed for time like this) they told me about the next step in the interview process, which would be a personal interview, and that they hope to have the chosen candidate in place by July 1st. They asked if this time frame was OK with me and I agreed. Then they said they had a few more phone interviews and would contact the chosen candidate about a personal interview next week.
So my question is - should I follow up & thank them for the interview, then let them know that because of the "time constraint" I didn't feel I was able to adequately share my desire for the job and highlight some qualifications that weren't on my resume? Or should I just leave it alone and see what happens?
I reallllllly want this job and I'm definitely qualified for it. Does it sound like the interview went good or bad? I've never had a phone interview like this before and I've never interviewed with a government/university before. I just don't know what to expect.
Thoughts on the follow-up and how it went would be greatly appreciated - TIA! ![]()
SORRY SO LONG!
Re: Phone Interview - Should I follow up?
I would definitely follow up and thank them for their time.
I wouldn't address the time constraint and how you didn't feel you got to say what you wanted. I'm sure other candidates were in the same position.
There is no way to tell how the interview went. I had a phone interview that I had no idea how it went, and a week later I was interviewing in person.
The thing to remember is that this is a big deal for you, but just another interview for them. Send the TYs, reiterate how interested you are in the position, and see how it goes.
