If you have wood floors - deco question
We have wood floors throughout the first floor and have not put an area rug underneath the kitchen table. I saw on a deco show a rug is good for "living" and no rug is good for "staging". huh. Didn't even think about it... WDYD? (what do you do?) :-)
Re: If you have wood floors - deco question
We have area rugs in our living room and dining room to go over the hardwood. It is a thing of comfort for us. It adds warmth to the room and I like having the cushioning vs. always walking on hardwood.
I like how open a room looks with all hardwood but ultimately I choose my comfort first.
Our flippers staged with a rug in the dining room over original (refinished) 110 year old hardwood and did not stage with a rug over the cheap crappy wood in the living room.
We inherited the staging rug. It's ugly, but it is making our den pseudo-wood floor warmer.
i dunno
My SIL is the only person I know who puts a rug under the kitchen table. I've never seen that and it looks weird to me-- too formal.
We have area rugs under our dining room table, but that's more formal and helps tie the whole room's look together.
Especially with a child in the house, I'd want to be able to sweep up under the table without having to bust out the vacuum or the stain spray.
I agree.
Although, in our old house, I had no rug in the dining room either and it looked better that way. I think it can depend on the style/size of the room.
I would never put a rug under the kitchen table - holy mess batman!
I had a rug under our kitchen table but it was because I didn't really like the floors and I was trying to break it up... now that my new floors are in, no rug!
I do have an area rug on the hardwood floors in my dining room though.
I would do a rug under a dining room table (if I had a dining room) but not under a kitchen table! Too much mess. I like to just vacuum stuff up and be done - or if it's a liquid spill, mop it up - easier with a bare floor.
In a living room I'd do an area rug for warmth and the look of it.
In the house I am possibly moving into the kitchen is all linoleum and the dining room is carpeted in boring white. I would probably even throw an area rug down in the dining room to pretty it up some.
This post has validated my desire to have a rug under our diningroom table. Of course, we don't have an eat-in kitchen, so I may be asking for it in the mess department, but I really want one.
