Late last week I finished Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult. (About an amish family who discovers a dead baby in the barn, the girl who abandoned it, and their English lawyer.) It was a great book - I couldn't put it down!!
Last night I just finished the 4th book in Julia Spencer Flemmings series. It was pretty good - a lot more plot lines going on at once than in her previous books, which sucked me in. I ended up reading like 150 pages yesterday afternoon/evening.
I am REALLY excited to start my new book today. Steven Tyler's book "Does the noise in my head bother you" just came out a week or two ago, and I got it.I have had a (really creepy) obsession with Steven Tyler and Aerosmith since I was about 15. I've seen them in concert a few times and have always had a crazy crush/obsession with Steven. I'm starting it today and am so excited.
Re: Book Check In
Right now I am finishing studying for a few History tests to get credit for classes I haven't taken yet. So I'm reading "The Earth and it's Peoples, volume 1: to 1500" Basically from the beginning of time to the Renaissance.
*Snore*
So that's why I haven't been around too much. Busy busy. :-(
my read shelf:
I'm still reading Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult - it's super good and I'm already wicked into it.
This totally reminded me - the morning show I listen to on my way into work has an intern on it who is obsessed with Steven Tyler. Like for her birthday every year, she makes a birthday cake for him. Ha!
I'm reading If I Stay by Gayle Forman. It is about a teenage girl, Mia, whose family is involved in a fatal car accident. Mia is in a coma and left with the choice whether she wants to live or die. I'm not too far into it yet, but it's good so far. It is a young adult book that I bought to put in my classroom library. I'm going to try and preread as many of these as I can this summer.
I will hopefully be picking up Two Kisses for Maddy this evening. Can't wait to read that one!
I want to read this book. If you like it, check out The Sky is Everywhere and Stolen. Both were amazing YA books!
I am trying to juggle too much.
I am still reading Revolution and Lamb from last week. I haven't finished anything. Right now Revolution is getting all of my attention.
I am also reading 2 professional books about teaching. One is about guided reading for a school book club. The other is a compilation of essays about inquiry projects completed in teachers' classrooms which is for a grad class I am taking this summer. I need to finish it before the class starts.
I've got about 50 pages left in The Help. Will probably finish it tonight.
I just picked up James Patterson's 10th Anniversary. I also picked up Love the One You're With by Emily Giffin
I tried to find Plain Truth on the Kindle store last night and all I could come up with was the audio book.
I am still reading Milk Glass Moon and downloaded Cutting for Stone..and another book last night.
I just finished reading The Kitchen House. It was recommended to me after I read The Help. It's similar as in it tell the story from the perspective of two different characters; a white child that was sold into slavery and placed with the black maids in the kitchen house, and the daughter of the master who, because she was of mixed race, was kicked out of the big house and forced to live and work in the kitchen house. I loved the book. It was a great story that really gets you involved and feeling for the characters. It was heartbreaking at times, and I will admit I shed a few tears.
While The Help and The Kitchen house are both about the difference between the help and the familys they serve, that's where the similarities end. They are very different stories, and I equally loved them both.
I have a few books saved to my wishlist, and hadn't yet decided what I was going to read next. However, thanks to PP, I think I might have to check out Steven Tylers book too!
I'm dying to read Stolen! I need to pick that one up for my library soon. I haven't heard of The Sky is Everywhere, but I'll check into it. If I Stay is good so far, but I'll give an update on next week's post!
