AW: what I did today (PIP)

I said I would craft, and I did!

Forgive the crappy photo, here's a slightly better one

I still have to sew the bodice and skirt together, obviously. And the pattern says to line the bodice but since this is my first dress and second garment ever, I was going to cut corners and not do it... until I realized a lining makes it way easier to deal with the raw edges. So I'm off to Joann's tomorrow for lining material. I'm going to wait to finish it until I can get my mom to help me with the zipper, though.

  • Very nice!! I wish I could sew like that. My aunt can and it amazes me. She made my wedding veil, first communion dress and my sister's first communion dress. It's a talent I totally wish I had.

  • Wow, that looks great! Awesome job! :) How long did that take you?
  • thanks! Up to this point it took about 3 hours- 1.5 for cutting the fabric a couple weeks ago and another 1.5 today for sewing the bodice and skirt. I think it'll probably take 3-4hrs to do the lining and sew the bodice to the skirt, and I'm a little afraid of sewing on the zipper. Someone said it took her 10hrs to do a slightly more complicated dress (and she has a lot more experience than I do) so I'm pretty much on my expected timing schedule. Overall I'm surprised it didn't take longer!
  • Yay for being crafty! It looks great. I ended up really cleaning up my nursery design and I plan to color it today with my new pack of 50 colored pencils (not as cool as 120 crayons, but I think I'm growing up a little *sniff*).

I also plan to paint this picture I found in a World Market. It was on a metal sheet and it was slightly rusty for effect. So I took a picture of it and I got a canvas board so it won't look like it would give my baby tetanus if it were in the nursery. I might PIP tomorrow if I like it enough (luckily the canvas board came in a pack of 3, just in case Wink )
