a guy came into the base tonight to drop off a dog he found snooping in the trash (I think the guy was the super of a bldg) it was a super cute black lab mix. He was friendly and in desperate need of bath. Typical maltreated dog he needed to be brushed and have a bath and underneath his collar was like a thick layer of grime (I felt it when I attached my spare leash to him) and I think he had mange. He was losing hair on the inside of his legs and around his ears and itching like crazy. I felt so bad for him bc he was just panting and wagging his tail like he was happy to be here. One of the cars came in to take him to animal care and control which I hate bc they are high kill but the aspca wont accept from the cops after hours.![]()
I was nervous after touching him (attaching his leash and then he got his legs tangled in the leash so I helped to free him since the only other cop here was afraid of dogs). I made sure to wash my hands good after each time I touched him but I was panicked and threw away my zip up sweatshirt since I googled mange & called my vet and they said they can be transferred to humans but since I washed up I should stay away from him.
Worse part is hes never been in a car bc he wouldnt jump in the back of the police car. Either that or he knew his fate.
