Bath towel recommendations?

I can't remember what Nestie posted about towels a few weeks ago...?

As part of DH's Father's Day gift (well, and it's a little self serving because I'd get one for me too Embarrassed) I'd like to splurge on new extra large bath towels for us.  I may want something bigger than a regular large towel - I think people might call them "bath sheets?"

Anyway, was that post about what brand of towels people had?  What's a good brand of towels that's a bit of a splurge?  For our wedding (six years ago) we registered for the Hotel Collection at Macy's and those towels have held up pretty well and they were soft and nice.  I'll fall back on that I guess if all else fails.

Also, are towels like sheets?  Do you look at thread count?  How do you know you're getting nice, soft towels if you order online?

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.

Re: Bath towel recommendations?

  • I have to feel towels to know if I like them, so I don't think I'd buy them online without checking them out in a store first.  I like them soft, but not super soft like the velour-feeling ones I've seen.  I've felt some "luxurious" towels (based on price and advertising, at least) and thought they were too scratchy.  We bought Ralph Lauren towels (incl. bath sheets for DH) from Macy's 5 years ago and they're still looking pretty good.

  • I really like the Pottery Barn towels.  They are so soft and obviously high quality!  I used to get the Costco bath sheets, but when I spent the weekend at a friend's house and used her PB towel, I was instantly converted.  I know PB has a bath sheet, but they don't have that many color options in that size.
  • Ditto Ralph Lauren towels.  Check the store at the outlets in Leesburg!

I also have some towels from Target are shockingly really nice.  I got them almost 7 years ago and they're in mint condition and we use them weekly... I think the brand is Fieldcrest?

  • We have some Ralph Lauren towels that are really nice. I ordered them from Neiman Marcus during a crazy sale, so they were really reasonably priced and had free monogramming. They're at least 2.5 years old now and have worn really well. They are green, and I've always had a problem with green towels getting fade marks and that hasn't happened yet.

My other favorite towels are actually from Kohl's. They're white towels with stripes and they're so soft and absorbent. I can't remember the brand, though.

  • We also have the Hotel Collection from Macy's in 3 shades of gray.  They're awesome and haven't faded or lost color at all in 2+ years.  The bath sheets are super awesome.

i like the hotel collection bath sheets as well. really soft and they've held up very well since we bought them last year. i have the regular sized towels too but the bath sheets are definitely worth the extra money.

  • Another vote for the Hotel Collection from Macy's. I have a bunch of those and the Ralph Lauren towels, and I like the Hotel ones better. They're much softer. I will say that RL has more variety of colors.
