Help with things to do (coming from NJ)

Hi ladies - My parents have a second home in Estero, FL and my husband and I have been down many times but we usually don?t do much while we are there.  We are going again in a couple weeks and would like to find maybe one or two things to do while we are there.  We normally just go the pool, beach and out to dinner at night.  I was thinking maybe this time we go maybe see the Manatees but after searching a bit it looks like you can swim with them I just want to do a boat tour or something.  Also is there anywhere that is nice to walk around and take pictures (maybe like a big park or something?)

I am open to suggestions.  Also are there any restaurants that are a must ? would be nice to eat somewhere different.

Thanks!

Re: Help with things to do (coming from NJ)

  • My friends and I used to go down to Estero once a year around February - They have a parade called the Edison Festival of Lights or something in DT Ft. Meyers.  My friend's dad worked at the Diamondhead beach resort (Or something like that) so we'd eat at the little beach side restaurant in the resort.  Walking around DT was kind of nice, but I would drive a little out of the way and see if you can get a tour of the Edison and Ford houses.  I'm kind of nerdy like that, though.  As far as restaurants....I can't help you with that one, since we usually just hung out at the resort.  My friend's dad isn't the chef there anymore, so I have no idea what the food quality is like now.

  • There is a winery nearby called Eden Winery.  I've been wanting to check it out, it looks very quaint.  If you guys like wine, it could be a nice activity.
  • Manatee park in Fort Myers is a good place to spot manatee. You can rent kayaks there too. I'm not sure if it is as good in the summer though, because usually they go there more in the winter to get out of the cold gulf water.

Coconut pointe has some great shopping and dining.

Corkscrew swamp sanctuary is a great park. Koreshan state park is also very pretty.
