We had a tile backsplash put in that was a bit complicated. The tile guy was awesome. He was on time, friendly, knew his stuff. He put down a tarp from the front door so that he wouldn't get dirt in the house, showed me the tile before he started installing it to make sure it was what I ordered, and drew out the backsplash design to make sure I liked it. He also consulted me whenever I had options to choose from.
He only does tile, he's been doing it for 12 years, and the quality of work is inpeccable.
His name is Tom Csordas (he's from Hungary) and his number is 703-899-7930. He will do work in the metro area. He is a contractor for some of the big tile stores, but is looking to start his own company. He doesn't have a website yet, but he can bring you photos of the work he's done. I can also show you a picture of the tile job he did for me. We'll definitely use him again.
If you use him, you'll be glad you did!
Re: Contractor RAVE: Tile guy
Yes, please
I went through a well known tile store, and they sent him out. The materials and labor were about $2,800, but I had a lot of tile work done. He said he'd be cheaper than using the big store. He was finished in 3 days. Next time, I'm going straight to him.
Tell him Dawn Pace referred you. I told him that I like referring good people, and that I was going to post about my experience.
So how much is a lot of tile work? We just got our shower surround retiled, and it cost a lot less than that. We need to do the guest bathroom still and I was going to consider trying someone else, but maybe I'll stick to our guy since it seems like we did get a good price.
It was 30 feet long total, from the counter to the bottom of the cabinets, plus a larger area under the range hood. It was a ton of tile in a brick pattern, with a framed mosaic above the range.
But, you can't judge by my total cost because materials vary in price. Ceramic will be cheaper than porcelain, glass, stone. I would definitely not pay as much as I paid for my backsplash for a shower surround.
It can't hurt to get a quote! Plus, he said going through him would be cheaper than going through the tile store because they mark up his labor. I went through the store.
Cool, thanks for the info!
