Talk to me about Keurigs

DH's birthday is next week and he wants a Keurig.  He loves coffee but I don't, so I'm clueless on which one to get.  I drink tea and I hear these things can brew tea too, is that correct?

Recommend your Keurig and help me narrow down the choices!  We have a small kitchen right now so if there are ones that are smaller than others, that would be a plus.

TIA!!

Ooh, thanks for posting this!! I could written it myself, but about my Mom.  I know she's been wanting one, but I have no idea which one to get.  My Dad doesn't drink coffee, so a smaller one would be alright in her case as well.

I've heard there are certain models where you can still use your own coffee without having to use the little packets.  Is that true?

  • i did a little bit of research on this before we got a single cup brewer for the office. Tassimos have much better reviews then Keurigs but some Keurigs allow you to use your own grounds instead of having to buy the kcups all the time.

we ended up going with the Keurig made by Cuisinart because it has much better reviews then just the Keurig and you can use your own grounds, but it is probably pricier then you want to pay (you can make iced drinks and hot chocolate and tea from it too though if you like those things).

If i was going to get a single cup and wasn't worried about using my own grounds i would get a tassimo. i know that isn't what you asked but that is my opinion on quality and such.

  • We also got the Cuisinart one.  My friend had problems with her Keuirg and that made me leary.  The Cuisinart we bought is flippin awesome. We love it.  And you can use your own coffee if you want.

Yes, they do have Kcups for tea & hot chocolate as well.  Ours has a hot water button if you just want hot water. It also has a timer so you can have it heated and ready in the morning. Although, it really only takes a minute or so to warm up.

We have this one. I got Kohls to match BB&B 20% off coupon.

My friend has this one. It comes with a variety pack of coffee. If you have a Costco membership, it's not a bad idea.

  • My dad got us the Keurig B60 Special Edition for Christmas a year and a half ago. We have the same situation where my husband likes coffee, but I don't. He usually only has a cup or two, so it is much better than brewing a whole pot and pouring out the extra that he doesn't drink. I have tea, hot chocolate, apple cider, and chai latte for the brewer for me. I love it!

  • I have the Keurig B30 Mini.  I keep it at work and I absolutely love it!  I have had no problems at all!

  • We have the Tassimos and we LOVE it!  I'm not a coffee person either but it brews hot chocolate, tea and coffee.  They sell the refill cartridges at BB&B so you can use the 20% off on them.

  • I love my Keurig.  We got the Platinum (if you have a Kohls charge, you can almost always find a 30% code and get Kohl's cash).  If you're using it at home, I'd get one with a water reservoir.  The mini is nice for the office, but you have to add water anytime you want to make a cup.  The difference in the other models is basically how big the reservoir is and the different size cups they make.  I believe all the Keurigs allow you to use your own grounds,  you just have to buy a special reuable cup.  Ours is 1-1/2 years old and we haven't had any problems.  I heard Keurig's customer service is great.  A friend of mine had a problem with their maker and they gave him a brand new one.

We had looked at the tassimo, but I felt Keurig has the market.  I see k-cups everywhere.  The tassimo pods seem harder to find and the selection is a little more limited.

This is the one we have too, it gets used multiple times a day and has been great! Like Jody said, you can do a lot more than coffee, so you can get some use out of it yourself!

  • DH just got me one for my birthday last week and I love it!  I can double check on the style when I get home.  DH rarely drinks coffee, but mine can also do hot cocoa, tea and other hot drinks.  I must say in the past week it has saved me at least 10-15 minutes every morning.
