A petty vent

This is such a little thing but it annoys the bejesus out of me.

MIL takes all the photos that I post on Abe's blog and on FB and prints them off. So most of them are really crappy looking because they aren't a high res files.

I mean, if you want to print one...ask me for the file. Don't take the liberty of just saving them and printing them.

Re: A petty vent

  • MIL does the same thing. She has a million photos of DD all over the house and they are all grainy. Meanwhile, she could ask and/or print them from Shutterfly at least since I post a lot up there on our share page for family
  • Is there a way you can head her off at the pass, so to speak? I know, Brianne, that you take pride in your photos (as well you should-- you're very talented and have worked hard to hone that talent), so maybe you can print a few off for her every time you take a batch?

The only other option-- aside from grinning and bearing it, of course-- is to set your photos of Abe so that MIL can't see them.

Well, there is a 4th option, but I don't think it's legal and I'm sure Abe wants to see his mother without bars in between...

  • I have the opposite problem.  MIL will take photos of DD and email them to me in low res.  The last time I asked her to send me the high res files for a couple of them that I wanted to print and she sent me the low res versions again (I don't think she knows the difference; I think she's clicking "email pictures" which automatically sends compressed files.)  The last time we were over at the IL's house I went on their computer, found the right files, and emailed them to myself!

  • I agree with Daniele, I think you should give her a bunch of gorgeous, high-res photos, and tell her you know that she loves to display photos of Abe and you want her to have the best quality photos of him.

It's a sweet gesture that solves your complaint.  :)

  • I would be annoyed by this too. I like Daniele's idea of heading her off at the pass with some high-res photos - either sending her the files to print, or printing them for her.

DD's godfather does this. They take great shots and then I never get them or they are low res! We were at their house for mothers day and I saw pictures from the first week of DD's life I had never seen before! Grr
  • My mom does the same thing - she actually framed one for my dad's office and it looks horrid...I saw it last week when I took the kids for a visit.  I know what I'm getting him for Father's Day  :o)

  • Gift idea for moms like that: Find an electronic frame that uses wifi to update the photos (assuming that they have wifi in the first place). Then you can "Send" new photos to the frame whenever you have them.
