furniture stores (sofa, bedroom set)
We're in the market for a new sofa and bedroom furniture. We want quality but don't want to spend too much. We really liked a couch at Crate & Barrel but it's pricey (and maybe we're probably paying more for the name, not quality?).
Any recs for furniture stores? Friends have suggested American Signature and Raymour and Flanigan, but most of their stuff is veneer not solid wood. We've mostly shopped at Ikea and West Elm in the past, so I'm not familiar with any other places...

Re: furniture stores (sofa, bedroom set)
I would suggest checking out Rowe for a couch--they're sold at Pottery Barn, but you can go to http://www.rowefurniture.com/index.php and hit the "store locator" button at the top to find other stores that carry their couches. A lot of times you can get the exact same models as they have at Pottery Barn for half the price.
As for bedroom furniture, I'm in love with West Elm's beds, but after reading a ton of reviews (not just on West Elm's site) it worried me that a lot of people were reporting beds that break, and nightmares with their customer service department for replacement parts--so we ended up buying a plain old Ikea Malm bed, and dressing it up with other dark wood side tables and splurged on a West Elm duvet (which I do love)
Anyway, hope this helps!
Thanks! I'll check out Rowe. We currently have an Ikea malm bed and love it. We may just keep that one if we don't find anything better!
We hate hate hate our American Signature couch, but really love our bedroom from R&F. I have been to the RH outlet in Limerick a few times, and still find it pretty expensive, and the stuff looks a bit beat up!
So.not.worth.it. Buyer beware at the RH outlet: You have no recourse if the furniture breaks or is unusable. eta: all sales final.
Esyn, if you are willing to travel out to Limerick, then you should check out Lebow in RoFo (it is a shorter drive)...I could meet you there and then we could go to Best Friendcs and/or lunch at Sly Fox.
We have several pieces from Lebow--armoire, secretary's desk, wide tv stand. All are solid wood and over the years still stand up. We need a new sofa, so I should start looking soon (we purchased our original one at Morgantown Outlets). My mom has shopped elsewhere for furniture and usually ends up buying from Lebow, even though it is not close to Media.
If you're heading up to Limerick, check out Fecera's. We got our couch from there and love it. People love our couch.
We have a Rowe couch that we bought at Gamburgs in Hatboro. I love it! I've also heard great things about Faceras.
Quite frankly, I think the RH outlet sucks. We've gone multiple times and everything is always so beat up. And yes..its still super pricey.
I was thinking of buying a headboard at West Elm. I'm hoping it'll hold up since its just the headboard and not the entire bed.
My little nuggets
Esyn - I will caution against Crate & Barrel couches. I hate mine. I hate it so much that I wish I could get rid of it... it's super uncomfortable and I cry a little every time I think about how much we paid for it. DH refuses to even think about buying another couch since this one is not even 4 years old yet.
It's this one - http://www.crateandbarrel.com/furniture/sectional-sofas/troy-right-arm-chaise-2-piece-sectional/s684279
The microsuede has held up super nicely, the cushions are all misshaped. It felt really comfortable when we sat on it and we spent a lot of time hemming and hawing over it (since it was a huge furniture purchase) and we both loved it. I am literally obsessed with all of their furniture, but I think for something we sit on every day for hours, it's wasn't the wisest choice.
Our last couch was from Raymour and Flanigan and it was super comfortable! Did not in any way fit in our rowhome though, it was one of those ginormous sectionals. And now I want it back
our first couch was a natuzzi leather sectional and i can't say enough great things about it
couch #2 was a nightmare from R&F, they serviced it numerous times and eventually replaced teh whoel thing...the service tech said Rowe was the best out there and that he never gets calls to come fix them, so thats good to know
Yeah, this would be great to do as well--the reviews I found were only in reference to the bed itself and not the headboards. I think it was something about a crossbeam breaking in the bed frame. West Elm's headboards are gorgeous though! I would have probably gone with the headboard alone, but we were up-sizing to a king from a queen and would need a frame anyway.
To the OP: I don't know what sort of style you're into, but I'll share what I did to make our plain old Malm a little more unique--we had a huuuuuge blank wall in our new place (we moved and replaced the bed at the same time) right over the bed. We knew we wanted a lower bed (we bought a memory foam mattress with the short little boxspring) which we used with the Malm frame set to the lowest height--then I decided to be a little crazy and hang one of those huuuuuge Ikea canvas prints right over the bed, almost as a frame-to-ceiling "headboard". I'm super happy with how it turned out--I might even have a photo on my phone if anyone's interested.
ETA: By the way, I'm kinda new to these boards--I used to lurk on TK before my wedding last year but never really got into posting there. I've been enjoying this board recently, so I thought I'd join in.
That sounds pretty!!
Thanks everyone for the responses....I'll be googling all of these stores tomorrow.
