Re: any gardeners here?

  • I haven't done fruit or veggies but my sunflowers, marigolds and impatiens are all planted and starting to sprout.
  • you already planted outside?????

wow.  i usually wait because in the last 4 years we get frost the week of memorial day.  i used to start from seed but this year swore i was not going to garden and now i am getting the itch.

  • I am a brave one.  Don't forget I am south of you so it's been safe to plant for a while.
  • true - very true.  my azaleas look lovely and the hydrangea is coming back but no blossoms yet.

I got three plants at the miscarriage memorial ceremony 2 forget-me-nots and one english daisy.  i need to plant those this weekend and maybe do some direct sow seeds of cottage garden.

last year my plants suffered because we were in jersey a lot with my dad.  this year i have put the kibash on the jersey shuffle.

  • I just kill stuff but my parents have a veggie garden. They don't really require that much work. They lay down black plastic so the weeds can't grow. They buy the potted plants. Make sure it has a good fence to kee out the wildlife.  It just needs watering every few days. Then once everything starts coming in you pick every other day.

  • My plants didn't do so well either last year but that's because it was too damnn hot!  This year I had DH dig up the hostas by our driveway because the idiot we bought the house from planted them in part/full sun.  We replaced them with 3 rose bushes.  I really wanted to plant purple cone flower and black eyed susans but Home Depot doesn't carry them and I am not paying nursery prices.

did you try Lowes?  I think Adam's has both of those plants as well, I thought the prices were pretty reasonable, but i dont know how far you might be from there

I think we are an hour away from the closest Lowes!  My parents are coming down next Saturday and I asked them to bring me a lavender plant from Binghamton because of course Ho Pot (I call it that because of a Carlos Mencia joke) doesn't carry them.

  • tomatoes, zucchini, string beans are super easily and yield a lot - great choices if you want low effort and high quantity!

i'm doing strawberries on my deck and we joined a csa, so that's it for me!
