Spouse traveling for work? - Questions to ask
H's employer asked him to start traveling for work. He'd be gone Mon-Fri, coming home on the weekends. He works on a project basis, so the location will always change but will never be local.
The two of us need to determine whether this will work for our family. These are the things that I think we need to consider, but please help me come up with more questions.
-Is there per diem/housing paid for while he is away?
-Pay increase?
-Will they pay for him to fly home every weekend, or at what frequency?
What else would you ask/request?
Thanks!

Re: Spouse traveling for work? - Questions to ask
How is everything paid? Company card? Personal card with reimbursement?
Little perks: does he get to keep his frequent flyer and hotel points?
Will he for sure be gone M-F? If not, how much notice will he get before he has to go somewhere? Extra compensation for less than 24hr notice (my DH gets this)?
What if he can't come home for the weekend? Will he be compensated for that? Will the company still cover food, hotel, transporation, etc.?

First, ALL travel and food expenses should be covered. And yes they absolutely should pay for him to fly home on the weekends. See if he can work half day on Friday so he can come home earlier. Ask if he can work from home 1 out of every 4 weeks.
My DH travels and what helps me is that I stay busy with my own job and my hobbies. I reached a point where I don't miss him as terribly as I used to. It isn't going to work if you focus on him being gone and how much you miss him versus you looking at this as an opportunity to engage in hobbies that you might not otherwise have the time to invest if your husband were home.
Also, business travel is tiring. Try to make sure he packs a workout outfit. Invest in some travel-friendly clothes and travel accessories that make his travel easy. DH about has his packing down to a science, but it can be a chore so do what you can to make the logistics as seamless as possible.
A few things to add...
Additional vacation time? He won't be around town for dr's appointments, etc. so he will probably need more time off to deal with those kind of "inconveniences."
Did someone mention finding out how expenses are handled?
Any opportunities for him to return Thurs night and work from home Friday?
