Trade Show Season

So my boss and I will be attending a 3 day trade show in Columbus Ohio this summer.  I will be meeting a ton of our current customers for the first time and "schmoozing".  This is my first trade show as most of the other ones are techy and the guys go to those.  We have a booth and are planning several dinners with customers.

So heres my question.  What to wear???? I have several knee-ish length business dresses, some more fitted than others, and a "well populated" shoe collection (it sounds less like an addiction that way ;) ) I wear jeans and t-shirts to work so I don't have any nice khaki's or dress pants.  Also I have a tattoo on my ankle, its classy but its there none the less.  Before you say cover it up, nope not happening its text that wraps my ankle.

My boss has seen the tattoo and hasn't said anything and knows that I plan on wearing things that it would be visible.  My question is mainly are the dresses appropriate? Or should I get pants and jackets with shirts? Pants for the actual trade show and dresses for dinner?

Re: Trade Show Season

  • I would think you'd be fine with the dresses you have. I don't think the tattoo would be an issue unless your boss mentioned it before. Worse case scenario, wear hose so it's less noticeable.

  • If your boss has not mentioned anything, I think it's all what you are comfortable with. I am more on the conservative side when it comes to my business appearance, so if I did had a tatoo that could be potentially visible, I would wear slacks with nice tops and potentially jacket depending on how formal the show is. Then, I would likely be ok with a dress or skirt for the evening when the dinners are more mixed business/social.
