Team In Training and a "Thank You"?

Last weekend I signed up with Team In Training to run the Half in the Nike Women's Marathon in October. After having been through a really challenging year in my personal life, I am really looking forward to completing this goal as a marker of transition and positive growth in my own life.

Last night I received my first donation for my fundraising goal from an anonymous source. I really want to thank that person, but since I don't know who it's from I was trying to think of where it came through. So far I've only mentioned my fundraising website on Facebook, in my Nest signature, and my email signature (but I've only sent one email since adding that).

So, if by some chance that anonymous donor came through here, I wanted to be sure to send a big THANK YOU for your support! Big Smile

Re: Team In Training and a "Thank You"?

  • Congrats to you for joining TNT and training for Nike!!  If you have any questions about TNT, training, or the race itself, feel free to ask (I have run this race for the past 4 years, trained through TNT, and also was a mentor/coach for TNT)!!
  • Awesome. Thanks, K!

Any thoughts on how the program works for beginning runners? I'm probably very beginning. I'm definitely motivated, but still a little fearful that I'm going to go out there and have them tell me that I'm crazy for trying to run and kick me off to the walk team or something. But I do really want to run (or at least run/walk, with the emphasis on running).

  • Really, truly, all levels are welcome!  They won't "demote" you, don't worry!  And, just remember, it is May.....the race is Oct. 16. You have PLENTY of time to adequately train!

Always run at your own pace!  The coaches are there to coach you, whatever your running speed is!  Coaches/mentors stay at every run until the last person finishes!  When you meet your coaches, ask them if they have a run/walk training program.  Some do and will outline a plan to gently ease you into more running and less walking.  If they don't have a program, let me know and I will send you one.  Just remember, don't be afraid to ask your coaches/mentors for advice!  That is what they are there for!

  • This was my first half marathon three years ago and I've been hooked ever since. I was a complete beginner and didn't run over 3-4 miles at one time so a 6 mile run when I started on the long runs was a huge deal. Just go your own pace, get the properly fitted shoes and hydrate. Which chapter are you in? Diablo Valley, SF?
    Me (33)& DX: DOR, FSH-20.3; DH(28):SA=normal 8/11 HSG= clear!
    IUI #1 10/12/11 (Bravelle + HCG + Prometrium & acupuncture) = 10/26 BFP! Beta #1=250, Beta #2= 615. 1st u/s 11/8. image Visit The Nest! Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

I'm on the Diablo Valley team.

See... that scares me a bit. You say "complete beginner" but then mention running 3-4 miles before you started. You don't mean non-stop, do you? Right now I can do intervals of 3 minutes running and 2 minutes walking (which is still better than when I first started running on my own...). But I wouldn't be able to do even 3 miles of non-stop running at this point. I hope that's not going to be a huge issue!
