I take many long drives every single day in one of my many fuel-inefficient SUVs and laugh and laugh as the gas prices rise and people complain!
I also ram hybrids for sport.

Also, I'm not sure where to put this, but we will most likely trade this in/buy an SUV when we have kids.
I nannied in college, the family was well-enough off (okay really just well-off) that they had a "babysitter car", an Acura MDX (SUV). There were a few times that it was unavailable to drive so I'd put the 2 kids/carseats in my 4-door VW Jetta and I've honestly never felt less safe in my life. And VW's are "safe" cars and I always felt secure when by myself, but by golly when the car is filled with 2 kids and 2 adults, eek!
Plus from a physicaling-"demanding" point on one's body, it was a PITA to lean over all the time to buckle/unbuckle and pick up the kid.
Even for the couple times we had the carseats/kids in the Volvo wagon, everything just feels to compact and clastrophobic, but maybe that's just me.

Well, since "Awesome American Muscle Car" is not on the list, I chose mid-size sedan, but I have no idea if that's the right category.
We have a 2011 Dodge Challenger (and Keith has a 4x4 Dodge Ram)
The Challenger gets the WORST gas mileage out of all of the current "muscle cars" but damn it's awesome! ;-)

It takes roughly $80 to fill it up and that lasts me a week, if I'm lucky.

My sister has a car for her nanny, it is nice for the rest of us because if we need to borrow a car if ours is getting fixed it is usually available.
I agree w/your other statement too. I have a Ford Fusion and my niece and nephew are in booster seats now, but my backseats weren't designed to make buckling those in easy. It is a huge PITA to maneuver those seats around with the kids in them to get them safely buckled in. While they normally buckle themselves in, my backseats make that impossible.
I guess I'm the only one who doesn't own a car. I had a Chevy Cavalier (coupe) up until 6 years ago, when it died. I live in a city with decent (sometimes even good) public transportation, so I don't need it. We either bus/T it or walk everywhere. The grocery store is 1/2 mile or so from our house, and CVS is a block away, so we can pretty much walk to any necessity. On the rare occasion when we do need a car, we use Zipcar.
We've talked about buying a one, but we'd rather save the money to buy a house at this point. Not only is gas expensive (I noticed it was $4.22 at the gas station around the corner the other day), but MA insurance rates are ridiculously high. I know people who pay more for car insurance per month than they do their car payment.
I have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata which gets like 32 MPGs and DH has an 2010 Hyundai genesis coupe which is pretty good on gas for a sporty car.
pppppppuuuuuurrrrr for the Dodge Challenger. That is like on the top of my list for dream cars! I think it is the closest remake to the original muscle cars and it is GORGEOUS! You are so lucky!
Thank you. It's seriously awesome to drive. We test drove the Mustang and the Camaro too. The Mustand was ok, I guess, but the new Camaro is HORRID to drive. It has about 52 blind spots and is totally uncomfortable. And, I like that the Challengers aren't as common too. You see them around, but not as many. The other day we were at a 4-way stop and there were 3 Mustangs and 1 Camaro and us. All at the same light!
And ours is Blackberry Pearl in color, and I have never seen another one of those "in the wild" lol

I miss the T. The zip cars were just getting popular when I lived in Boston and if I ever moved back I would probably go carless and just borrow a zip car when I needed it. Insurance is wicked high, probably because of all the masshole drivers :-)

Zipcars are kind of a godsend, honestly. I'm lucky that we get a (massive) discount through work, so the yearly membership is 1/5 the actual cost. The problem now is that the closest cars are a bus ride away, unless I pick one up after work.

It's a car rented per hour increments (from my understanding), so it's "shared" with strangers, you pick up at a certain location and drive for however long you rented it for
