So now we have a new sump pump in there, 350$. My Mom said that was alot but I thought it was okay considering they installed it (vs. DIY)
Re: I flooded again!!!!!!!
That price sounds normal to me fior around here.
I don't know anything about sump pump pricing, but jenn, you probably want to look at keeping the water from getting into your basement in the first place if it's flooding that badly or else you are going to keep burning through sump pumps.
Make sure your gutters and downspouts are clear and your downspouts are discharging far enough away from your foundation (get some of those concrete splash pads and an extension to direct the water away if you need them), and make sure your yard slopes away from the house. Including any planting beds. It's really really important and a cheap fix since it usually just takes a shovel and a weekend to fix.
If you are having water gathering around your foundation, you are just going to have to keep replacing your sump pump because it's going to run way more than it's designed to.
And if you still have issues with water in the basement it might not be a bad idea to look into backup pump systems so if your main pump fails again you don't have a flood like this. Wet basements SUCK but there is definitely stuff you can do to prevent them.
this page gives a really great basic outline of what all the different issues are with flooded basements and how to fix them. http://www.enermac.com/weeping/
(most of this is straight from my husband, who does storm water management plans (among other things) for a living)
My Goodness...another food blog. Featuring: Macarons from a old post with a photo taken by my mom for a break from my crappy food photos!
thanks Wawa...I'll go over that very thoroughly...some of the stuff you mentioned we already did because as you said, it's pretty basic stuff...but perhaps there's some other ideas in there to help keep us ahead of the game
