This may be long, but I need to sort out my thoughts before I start stressing, and Rodgers is at work so I have no one to talk to...
Babysitter told me yesterday that she's probably going to have to get a full-time job soon. It sounded like things aren't going well at her husband's company.
I thought of trying to find another sitter, but there really isn't another individual I know and trust who's really available. I know a few who I could call in a pinch, but they all have between 2 and 4 kids of their own and couldn't commit to long-term or regularly keeping Nate (and baby brother).
I went on the state's website and pulled email addresses from all licensed centers and home daycares which didn't have serious violations at inspections, and which did list that they take infants and toddlers, and sent one bulk email last night. None of them (so far) offer part time. But some have pretty great rates (and some even have sibling discounts!). Most of them have openings in both toddler and infant ages - if not now, they will have openings sometime during the summer. This tells me that a lot of people are still unemployed. There were not this many infant room openings when I was pregnant with Nate. Practically everyone has said that if I get on the wait list now, they can guarantee a spot in November. No one would do that for Nate, even though I started talking to daycares about the same time during pregnancy.
I'm hoping I can rely on Rodgers to do the touring and interviews because he's off in the mornings. Right now, I have 7 on the list. And I already kind of have them ranked in my mind, but we'll see what Rodgers thinks after visiting them. 1 is likely to have part-time rates, but I'm still waiting to hear back. I thought of trying to take Nate and brother back to where Nate was last year because we love that place, but Rodgers and I are both working in the opposite direction of that center now. It's in a whole other town. Made sense then because that's where Rodgers worked, and I drove through there on my commute, but not anymore.
This is probably why I'm daydreaming about being unemployed again... I'm now sure we'll be able to get Nate in somewhere when the sitter gets a full-time job. But it's going to make a big difference in our budget to go from part-time sitter to paying full-time daycare (unless that one place does have part-time rates and is really great).
Re: looking for daycare again. :-/
That really stinks, Rachel!
Does your sitter have any connections you could ping into?
I think it's great you've already done so much research. I am sure you will hear back from some of them today or tomorrow.
Would any of them offer tours/etc before working hours so you could check them out also?
I was thinking the same thing. I hope you find someplace that works for you guys, but at least you have a little time to decide.

THIS!
Our sitter is just a friend with a flexible schedule as she's a SAHM (until she gets a job) with a 1 kid. We know all the same people...
Rodgers is going to look at our top 3 tomorrow morning. One of them (which happens to be my #1 pick) is extremely conveniently located. They also have the best rates and sibling discount. Still no part time rates, but in that case, Rodgers' ever-changing schedule wouldn't be a problem because we'd be paying for full time anyway. I'm hoping it's a good place. If it passes his inspection, I will see how early in the morning there is someone in the office so that I can swing by on my way to work.
