Frog problems

I moved into this house right before the summer of last year. During the May-Aug months I noticed quite a few frogs. by the end of the summer I counted 6 frogs in my yard. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against animal/frog life, I just think that, they should not be sitting on my front porch when I get home. I don't want to kill them or touch them, and I have posted in numerous places on advice of how to get rid of them.

I even googled it. I told my husband last night I want to call Billy the Exterminator to come and get them.

So I am coming to you ladies, How do I get rid of the frog nation in and around my house.

Oh, and I saw the woman that I bought the house from a couple of months after I bought the house and mentioned the overpopulation of them and she said "Oh, my gosh aren't there a lot of frogs"? I just laughed and blew it off. I am at my wits end.

 Any Ideas?

Re: Frog problems

  • I asked DH, he knows some stuff about pest control from his job (although I don't think they usually deal with frogs.) He said you could try a mixture of half water, half vinegar and put it in a spray bottle and spray certain areas if you know the area they're in the most. That'll repel them.

  • Oh my gosh, I'm in the same boat you are! They drive me nuts, and it doesn't help that my dogs think they are some kind of new cool toy that they must try to pound into the ground or eat!!

Do you want to get rid of them just because you don't like them hanging around or are they some kind of nuisance? Frogs are an indicator of a healthy environment. They will keep your bug population down, especially Mosquitos. Unless you have a concern about your pets trying to eat them I'd let them stay.

    Yes I agree.
  • I agree, leave them be unless you have a dog that is like my boy and brings them inside as presents.  Yuck!!!!
  • Do you leave your porch light on at night?  Bugs go where the light is and frogs go where the bugs are.  If you never leave your light on at night, they're less likely to congregate there.  If you don't leave a porch light on, then I'd agree with the pp that they are pretty harmless.
  • Pack them up and bring them to my house. I love having frogs and toads around. They eat the bugs the spiders can't catch (want some of my orb weaver spiders? I have thousands of them, it seems sometimes) and the babies are SO CUTE.

  • Ugh. I seriously hate frogs. I hate the way they look, sound, hop... it makes my skin crawl just seeing them... in saying that, dh takes care of that problem. We started turning off back porch light, keeping our grass trimmed, and spraying a repellent (harmless to them).

Are you sure we're not related???

I can handle spiders. Snakes aren't that big of a deal. I HATE, HATE, HATE frogs. I seriously screetch like a little girl when I see one, and I'm definitely not the screetching type.

My MIL is the same way--she's terrified of/hates frogs. I don't get it, of all things to hate, why hate the frogs?? lol

I have no idea---they seem so gentle, right? But they could eat your throat in a second, I have no doubt :)

Seriously, when I was 5 or 6, a kid put a frog down the back of my (tucked in) shirt so I couldn't get it out. I've been squicked out ever since.

  • Haha we had a friend (parent of one of my students) come and fix the hole in my office wall tonight, and he brought his daughter because she wanted to meet all my pets. One of the toads jumped out at her at the door lol. They're my greetin' frogs!

Same here, but I am equally afraid of snakes.
