Trip Insurance?

DH and I are sitting down this weekend to finalize our vacation.

We're not using a travel agent or a website like expedia or anything, so i'm wondering how to go about (or if we even can) get trip insurance.  There's been talk about the campaign starting early and leave being cancelled, so we want to make sure we don't get screwed.

    Do you have AAA?  They offer trip insurance.  http://travel.aaa.com/travel-insurance.htm

    If you don't have them, it may be worth it to buy a membership and then cancel when you get back from your trip...

    definitely get it. it shouldn't be that expensive and if you have to cancel, it will be worth the money and avoided headaches. for our belated honeymoon (which was 2.5 weeks) we used travelers. i think we paid like $150 or $200?

    Do you have a credit card that offers trip insurance when used for booking the trip?  You might and not realize it's a benefit so I would look into that angle as well.

    i used to not care about travel insurance until i went on vacation with xDH and he got injured on day 3 of our trip. we were on a sailboat in the caribbean with my parents and some friends. we had purchased a policy through AIG Travel Guard and it was sooo totally worth it! they covered a bunch of our medical expenses, unexpected nights in hotels, etc. i won't travel without it anymore!

    Depending on the cost of your trip, comprehensive travel insurance is usually only a couple hundred dollars - so it's probably worth it in the grand scheme of things, since most trips are usually a few thousand dollars.  We've gotten travel insurance through this company (although fortunately, we haven't needed it): www.accessamerica.com

    you can also try insuremytrip.com and it compares different policies so you'll be able to see what they offer and the pricing of them. We have AAA too but it was actually more expensive and less cover for the policy we did end up buying through travelguard
