Owen watched Curious George at 7am, the last 10 minutes of Dinosaur Train at 9:50, Super Why at 10:00, and now he's on his second George thanks to Tivo. The 7am viewing was because Ellie woke up and needed to be fed/changed/etc. The DT/SW viewings were because I wanted to eat breakfast and empty the dishwasher, and the current George is because I really wanted a cup of coffee. (Ellie's been asleep in the swing.)
Is that so wrong?? In my defense, we also read some books, painted with watercolors, and played with trains. And the TV will go off when George is over.
I don't know how the "no TV" parents do it and stay sane...it's raining and Owen has a cold, so we'll be in here all day.
Re: being a bad mom right now
You're not a bad mom. And if you are, then I am the queen of bad moms.
Helen gets a steady diet of the Fresh Beat Band (damn I hate that show), the Backyardigans (used to be Pinky Dinky Doo but they changed the program lineup), and Jack's Big Music Show on most mornings. I'm not a morning person. I relish the quiet time to eat breakfast, read the paper, catch up on emails, and go to the bathroom in peace.
That makes me feel better.
While I don't have kids yet, I don't know how this morning's activities would make you a bad mom! It sounds like it was a nice treat and break in routine for you and Owen. You both deserve that.
I was a bad sleeper/napper. When I was about Owen's age, my mom started having me watch a half hour of PBS around lunchtime and another hour while she made dinner. She needed it for her sanity and she needed me to have the downtime since I wouldn't nap as much as I needed to. One the families I nannied for in the summers had a similar routine. The mom actually preferred that we watch an hour of tv with lunch and another half hour at the end of the day to rest up before family dinner time.
