(End of world content:) Atheists will save your pets!

Did any of you guys see this?  A local radio show was discussing it this morning and it was cracking me up:

http://eternal-earthbound-pets.com/

Pets can't go to Heaven with you?! :(  What about "All Dogs Go To Heaven?" Crying

Some of the content of the site is hilarious.  They are "confirmed Atheists with no hope of redemption."

And this isn't meant to offend any board Atheists.  I'm a big fence-straddling Agnostic.  I just think the whole thing is pretty funny in relation to all the wackos believing in the May 21st/October 21st crap.

Re: (End of world content:) Atheists will save your pets!

  • A lot of religions believe that pets do not have an afterlife because they do not have souls. So, when they die, they just...die.

But, I say that if heaven is truly heaven, all my pets will be there!

  • Don't worry guys.... I'll make sure your pets are looked after!  Enjoy the rapture!

I simply cannot believe that pets and animals don't have souls. I cannot believe that my Bella was just snuffed out-like a candle-with nothing left. I cannot do it.

The God I believe in is kind and inclusive and welcoming. There are definitely pets in heaven.

No need to worry - all living creatures have souls and there is mention in Scripture of animals being in heaven. Smile  The confusion is usually due to the distinction between human (spiritual and immortal) souls which face judgement and animal souls (material and mortal) which do not face judgement. Many assume this means their souls are gone forever, but in Scripture we see that God recreates their souls in heaven for us. So they aren't lost!

Anywho - that site is pretty ridiculous!

What verses in Scripture mention this??? I've been into arguments with people over animal souls and would like some citations please! (Oh, and FTR, I also totally believe in animal souls. I don't think it's possible that ALL of how we view our pets is purely anthropomorphism.)

    Here are some:

Psalm 145:-9-10,13,15-21 God loves all His creation and has made plans for all His children and the lesser creatures to enjoy His eternal Kingdom.

Romans 8:19 says that the lesser creatures await Christ's return to redeem the sons of God so they, too, will be released from physical death to eternal life.

There's some mention in Psalm 35/36 depending on which translation you use:

6 O Lord, thy mercy is in heaven, and thy truth reacheth, even to the clouds. 7 Thy justice is as the mountains of God, thy judgments are a great deep. Men and beasts thou wilt preserve, O Lord

Also: 2Ki 2:11 And as they went on, walking and talking together, behold, a fiery chariot and fiery horses parted them both asunder: and Elias went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

And what is assumed to be a description of heaven: Isaiah 11
6 The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
    the calf and the lion and the yearling Angel together;
and a little child will lead them.

7 The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.

8 The infant will play near the hole of the cobra,
and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest.

But, there will always be arguments that you don't need animals in heaven, because, basically being with God in heaven is the greatest gift and you will not need anything from the Earth. But, my argument would be that while you do not need anything of the Earth, God would still provide out of love. Also, under that premise you could say we wouldn't need each other since we are of the Earth as well, and clearly God doesn't prohibit people's souls from being in heaven (if worthy).

    Hope that helps!

Yes, very much so. Thanks!! Big Smile  And the bolded bit is what I've always heard and it made me so mad. That once we're in paradise we'd be so overwhelmed with joy and faith that we'd abandon all Earthly desires (meaning pets, materials, relationships, etc) and I just can't wrap my mind around that. What makes us human (and to me God's image) is the fact that we are capable of forming these relationships with people and animals and showing that love and compassion. So, now I have some decent ammo to come back at people.
