Money saving tips....

Anybody have any??!!  lol

Ive been trying to cut down our monthly expenses as much as possible.

Getting rid of movie channels

Lowering minutes on cell phone plan

Lowering our cable package for less channels

Buying diapers online

Ive tried to get serious about our grocering shopping but just spent $200 on sunday. And will probably have to go back before next week is over.

What else you got? :)

Re: Money saving tips....

  • do you plan your meals out in advance for the week? I find that that really has kept my grocery bill down as im buying what i need for the week and maybe one or two things that i notice are on sale. Instead of a bunch of things in preparation for "possible" meals

  • I use coupons, and buy sale items, but only if i need it.
Also I buy bulk items in costco (papertowels, toliet paper, cereal,)

  • I definitely try to meal plan. Maybe I'm not doing a good job??? I'll go by what meat is on sale and decide what to make from there.  And I will also check what I have in my pantry and cabinets.  I know I buy items for recipes that may not be on sale, so maybe that is my problem......

I have also been trying to buy what we need at that moment, rather then just because something is on sale. And I try to stick to a list but always end up picking up a few extras

  • Bringing lunch to work.  I'm sure it saves me a bundle.

I'm also loyal to CVS for toiletries.  I buy what is on sale and use a coupon.  Because I shop there so much, I'm always getting emails with $5 off coupons.  I've gotten $65 worth of stuff for 5 bucks. It's always a thrill.

Also, keeping my closet organized helps me see what I have to avoid buying another black dress or black heels.  Almost all of my clothing is from TJMaxx or Marshalls.

  • I agree with using CVS and Rite Aid.  Not just for toiletries but you can get a good deal on household things like paper plates, etc as well as laundry detergent.
  • Ditto pp, especially bringing lunch.

Are you signed up for Upromise?  You can link all your rewards/credit cards (and your family can, too). You get a percentage back on some purchases and the point is to save for college, but you can just request a check made out to yourself instead.

Maybe you can gas up in Jersey on your way to work.  DH did it when he worked in the Bronx (he always stopped off the thruway on Rt 17), but he never commuted in rush, so I don't know if it's worth it to you.  Maybe try Costco for gas in Nanuet?  It may add up after a while.  (I don't do it even though I have a ridiculous commute, so DH's always yapping about that. But, he drinks bottled water and that's a real waste of $ IMO, so we're both wasteful)

Vegetarian meals?  I spend a lot less on food b/c of this.  There are a ton of simple, healthy and inexpensive meals you can make.

  • I coupon, buy on sale, and I use ebates on online purchases. Ebates is free and you get money back for your online purchases. I just signed up in April and so far I got a $10 Target  gift card and $14 cash back.
