Kind of a funnny prop 8 story

So I got up at 6:15 this morning to volunteer for No on Prop 8.  It started down pouring at about 7:00 so after 3 more hours I couldn't wait for my shift to be over. I got a call from our field supervisor to pack it in but I saw one last guy walking up to the voting place.  Now, all day we had been getting lots of support (almost everyone we talked to was proudly voting no) so I thought, let me talk to one last voter.  So I go up to him and I say "Hello sir, we're here reminding everyone to vote no on Prop 8 because it is discriminatory" and before I can give him a pamphlet I see he has an "I voted sticker".  So I'm like oh, sorry to bother you.  And he's says, no problem, I voted no!  So I smile wide and say, that's great!  Thank you!  And he's like, that means no gay marriage right?  LOLOLOLOLOLOL.  I looked at him and said "I have some bad news for you."  He was crushed. Teehee. Here's to confusing propositions!

  • LOL! Poor guy (I guess). I'm so afraid of the opposite effect of the prop... voting yes FOR gay marriage.

  • That's why they had us handing out pamphlets clearly stating that a "No" vote was a vote against discrimination and for marriage equality. I think both sides realized how confusing it was.
  • I've been following the Prop 8 stuff pretty closely and I have to continually remind myself that "No" is the right vote!

I'm pulling for you California to do the right thing!  I really, really hope it fails!

California voters hardly ever do the right thing. We are the state that passed one of the first "marriage is between a man and a woman" propositions. Boo. We also tried to deny children of illegal immigrants a public education. Boo (later rejected by the courts). Despite having a blue reputation, we have a real mean red streak running right through the middle. Here's hoping we do the right thing, for once.

A yes on prop 8 win will put a real damper on an otherwise seemingly great day.

  • I almost feel bad for the guy!

  • The latest polls, while still way close, are looking good for No...

  • That actually makes me sad.  I don't agree with his position at all, but people ought to be voting intelligently and accurately.  That's a shame.
  • I heard that was happening a lot on both sides when I volunteered Sunday. We got quite a few questions about it too; I had a girl about 12 years old come back 3 times to get it straight (she took a sticker, ripped it off, and ended up with it back on).
