My new path (I think)

I determined that I might persue an accounting degree or something to that effect, to possibly be an auditor of some sort! I did some job searches and the pay looks very good, and my aunt works in an accounting firm in Birmingham and so I can ask her about where I should start. She make BEAUCOUP bucks so long term this would be great for our financial stability. I will contact my uncle and find out when is a good time to bend her ear and give me some advice.

I'm excited for the prospect of doing something that is much more financially rewarding than my current position and potential where I am now. Anyone who has knowledge about this topic please share anything you are willing to tell me!

  • I have a cousin who has his degree and masters in accounting. It can be a very rewarding field, but at the same time can cause extreme stress. If you are up for the challenge and your DH will support your desire to do this, I say go for it.

  • Oh fun!!  We've had a lot of career changes around here lately!  Sort of exciting.

Since my DH just went back to school to get his accounting degree, I can give some insight on it, but not much.  One thing I've noticed is that MH really enjoys it because he loves math and working with numbers.  The other thing I noticed is that he is somewhat bored with the repetitiveness of it.

I'm sure that you're family member will help a great deal in leading you down the right path!

    Keep us posted!

  • @Jessy- thanks for the questions, those are some good things to think about! I do think I would enjoy it more than my current job, and the $ would be an improvement. Currently I make very little based on the area and have no stress except for the frustration of a supervisor who does not want to be one. So I'm willing now to take on some stress and get compensated for it :-)

I do enjoy math/ numbers, and from having a few accounting classes getting my basic business courses in school towards my BA in Management, I know there is repetitiveness in that field. I think all jobs have some level of repetitiveness so its just part of life unless you change jobs.

I have not talked to my aunt yet but have sent an email to my uncle to have her get in touch with me when she can. This is still early on in the process but you gotta start somewhere right? Thanks all!

  • Cool!!  I love auditing and my degree is in psychology.  LOL  I think a non-CPA auditor can start out around $70-80k with the right education.  Check around and see.  I thought about taking the Certified Bank Auditor exam.  My boss wnated me to take the Certified Internal Auditor exam but they dont' offer it anymore.  He said not to bother with the other one; our other auditor at work (who has a degree in corporate finance) said that's because they don't want us to get the CBA certification and go someplace else.  LOL  Honestly I love my job and wouldn't leave unless they made me...
