Soccer gear *MrsReem and LittleBug*

We started accumulating the gear Sophia will need for soccer next month and I'm wondering how you ladies are doing.  I found a decently priced pair of Nikes at Kohls and XXSmall shin guards at Dunhams yesterday.  I also ordered some athletic shorts from Walmart and am hoping they are small enough!  My next mission is socks, which of course I can't find small enough.  Have you ladies had any luck?

Re: Soccer gear *MrsReem and LittleBug*

  • I am striking out. The shin guards at Dunhams are short enough but the elastic is too small to fit around Ava's calves.. As far as shorts, I was just going to have her wear cotton ones..I hadn't even thought about socks.. crap! I don't want to spend $50 on gear for her to wear for 3 weeks.. I am still on the hunt for shin guards but beyond that, we may not buy much. There is a place on 100th between Douglas and Hickman that sells soccer stuff.. I think its called Soccer Connection or something- I was going to check there for shin guards but you may be able to find socks there..

  • I highly recommend checking out Soccer Connections they have a store on 100th between Douglas and Hickman on the east side of the road.  They carry a bunch of stuff for younger children.

With the shinguards another tip if you have problems with the elastic not being small enough to secure the shinguard to your child's legs is to put on the shinguards, put on the soccer socks, then use athletic or electrical tape and wrap a strip around their ankles (at the bottom of the shinguard) and around another strip around the top of the shinguard up on the shin.  This will keep the shinguard securely in place and is legal on the soccer field.  As they get older, most of the shinguards they will use will not even have elastic bands, the guard just fits in a soccer sleeve/sock and your soccer socks, and tape if you use it, are the only things to keep them up.

  • We got Ella's shinguards at Scheels and they were actually the same price as the WalMart ones. We just got plain black shorts from Me and Mommy 2 Be...got out cheap there :-). Didn't attempt the search for socks yet....

I'd been debating going to Soccer Connections so I think we'll have to plan a stop there this week.  I was surprised at how little the shin guards cost at Dunhams (only $10).  It sucks to spend money on something that will only fit one year, but since Sophia is so short we absolutely had to have the super small ones so she could move in them.  She also needed new tennis shoes for preschool next year so we killed two birds with one stone on that one!

I can't wait to see them all in their gear!  Even if they hate soccer they will look so cute! :-)

  • Butting in.....

I signed up my almost 3 yr old son for the July soccer with Grimes Parks & Rec.  I've asked all my friends with kids if they have anything, but haven't started looking in stores yet for shoes and shin guards and socks.  Are you having them wear  soccer cleats or just regular tennis shoes?

I have been told by several sources that the cleats don't come smaller than a size 11 so we just bought regular tennis shoes.  Sophia is still in a 7 so it will be a while before we fit into the hand me down size 11s we have.

  • lol! 3 year olds in cleats is a really scary thought!  :) They're growing up too fast!

I just got back from scheels. I talked with 4 of their associates (apparently today was a slow day) and they recommended the Nike Shin Sock III. The socks and shin guards are integrated so you don't have to find both ($12.00) and it has one of the shortest heights available. However, even if they're not short enough, they are not attached with velro behind the knee- it's the elastic in the socks that keeps them on) so it won't hinder running. They come in pink, black, and white. Very cute!

I also was able to find soccer shorts by Adidas in the youth clothing section. Adidas was the only brand that I could find 2XS with a drawstring.

They are going to look SO CUTE!!!!!

Now for sneakers. We'll probably do that tomorrow. I may also try to find one more pair of shorts.

Is it creepy of me to want to come watch them play sometime?

Seriously, though, I am hoping to be able to sign Nicholas up next year, so it would be nice to know what we're getting into. :)
