Update on new path

Yesterday I talked to my aunt and she said the degree in accounting isn't as necessary anymore, but getting a certification from the Institute of Internal Auditors would be a good idea. So that is awesome because it is way less time consuming and costly to do the certification than get a degree!

So I'll be off studying for my next set of exams, there are 4 parts and then you have to get a character reference from someone who is certified (my aunt can do that!) and then I'd have to get a signature from someone on my experience credentials which would have to be from my current boss :-p I've got time to work that out so I'm not so worried about it yet.

I'm so excited to start working on something that I know will pay off for me professionally! I've done various things in my jobs to advance my knowledge but they never advance my career- makes it seem kinda pointless doesn't it? Thanks to you all for your support! DH is behind me no matter what I want to do of course :-)

  • That sounds great, Lisa!!  I wish you the best of luck!  I actually used to be a public accountant, and left that field because of the long hours and tedious boring work.  BUT I worked for a big public firm doing tax returns.  There are SO many types of jobs that accountants and auditors can do, and it makes a big difference.  I'm sure your aunt can direct you to jobs that fit your "work life" balance...because I did not have that and that's why I left.  Either way, yes, you will make good money :)  That's one big sacrifice I made when I left accounting for higher education.  But to me, it was a good move.  I know you will be happy with whatever you do :)  Good luck!
  • What awesome news!  Sounds like it's a win-win for you.  Good luck with your exams and keep us posted how they go!

  • Thanks ladies! I am glad to have a direction to go now for my career which might lead to having a variety of jobs which I can be useful and learn new things. I am tired of being so bored at work so much of the time! I am planning on ordering the study materials soon  and get started :-)
