Re: June Book Club- Poll Added

  • Not trying to pick on you, Britt... But what happened to the host picking a few books & then the group voting? I felt like that worked better than just saying "Okay, here's the booK!"

I've seen it done both ways so I thought it was up to the host to decide...is that a hint about the book LOL. I honestly had a hard time with this category and this book looked the most intriguing to me. I do have more options bookmarked on my laptop at home.

  • Honestly, I didn't look at the book. I'm pretty sure when we had Book Club reform in January, it was agreed that the Host would pick a few & we'd have a poll. I hate to be Book Club Nazi, but I just didn't want the trend of "Here's the book!" to continue.

Even if it's not a formal poll, I think voting on a few options works best. I know when we had book club at my house, Ashlee mentioned a few different memoirs in mind & it was a resounding "yes" towards the Jonestown option, so it was declared then.

  • How about this, since you're requesting it, I will post a poll tonight when I get home. I will edit the OP.

  • I think we originally said that we'd either post a poll OR talk about it at the book club before and then the host would just post the choice. Like how we all agreed at Devon's that the Jonestown book would work, so I just posted the next day "this is the book for May."

I just looked and it looks like a good choice to me, maybe we can go with is unless other people would rather have a poll, but in the future we'll be sure to either discuss or post a poll for the board (non-clicky so only potential attendees get to vote).

That sounds like the best option. I think that perhaps when we don't have a choice, the books are less likely to be read. If we're all in agreement then it's more likely to be read and book club is more anticipated with better turnout!

    Agreed!

  • My choice is:

    The Killer Inside Me

  • I'll say The Killer Inside Me, it's got the highest rating on goodreads and sounds interesting. But some of the others look interesting too, might add them to my TBR pile!

  • Killer Inside Me, for sure.

  • I should be able to go and I like your original pick.  I put a hold on the library, but it doesn't look like many copies are available.  Some of us might have to pony up and amazon that shiz.

I forgot about looking into that. There's usually only a handful of us that participate anyways, so whoever gets it first, hurry up and read!

  • I like the original pick too!

  • I'm not going to vote because I'm not sure if I'll be going yet (likely yes) but they all look like good picks.  I remember seeing the movie Rosemary's Baby and it completely freaked me out.
  • Looks like the unanimous decision is The Killer Inside Me, see you guys on the 20th! I'll post a reminder the week before.
