Destination Wedding Help!

Hi Ladies!

Did any of you do a destination wedding in Jamaica? I've got a friend who is planning a wedding there in 2013 and I'd love to pass on any tips, and recommendations you have! Thanks!

Re: Destination Wedding Help!

  • I thought about doing a DW for a while... we would have either done Florida or Mexico. I ended up deciding against it because I am too OCD to handle the details from thousands of miles away. Also, I would want to see the resort ahead of time and have a great photographer travel with us... it would have been way more money than I anticipated. There is a destination weddings board on the knot... I would check that out. Also, Megan can probably provide some suggestions since her brother got married in mexico recently... Good luck!

  • Well, I HM'd in Jamaica and it was beautiful! We went to Couples Sans Souci, and it was just awesome. I did see two weddings there that looked wonderful, too. That said, I don't know much about the details.

My brother's wedding was not at all what they had in mind. I think it had more to do with the fact that the coordinator was just a total idiot and everything was really unorganized. For example, she failed to notify us during the rehearsal that after the vows were said (which they didn't even get to say!!! All they said was "I do"), the bride and groom and all four witnesses had to sign the marriage cert. and be fingerprinted! So, talk about awkward, because this took a good 5-6 mintues while we all stood there going "WTF is going on??"

    It was weird :S

My advice is to make sure she's comfortable with the coordinator before they move forward and book anything!

  • Thanks Megan! Never even thought about those types of differences to what we might expect!
