LJ has low iron. Help me with food.
We had our 1 year check-up today and apparently Lucas has low iron. His hemoglobin was 10.2 (with the normal range of 10-16) so just on the low side.
You might remember that we have had a struggle with Lucas' eating habits and I feel like mother-of-the-year over here since now it's causing low iron.
Sure, cream of wheat would be a GREAT option if the kid didn't hate anything with a mushy texture...
So help me come up with finger and/or fork foods?
Eggs? Green veggies? Eh??

Re: LJ has low iron. Help me with food.
Jackson also had low iron at his 12-month. We ended up buying the infamil (sp?) vitamins with extra iron for him and that helped a ton. I also think they make some gummy vitamins with iron, but not 100% on that.
Sorry, I'm not much help in the food area.
Did he have to go back in after 1 month for a blood work check-up? Did you see an improvement based on the vitamins?
I guess I'm just not sure how much it will take to move the needle. I certainly don't want the poor kid to eggs for every meal if he doesn't need much more to put him up a few points...

K was the same at his 1 year. You can do green leafy veggies (yeah, not an option for us, he will find it in food and spit it out), beans, meat, etc. I did the Enfamil drops with K when he was about 4 months old, but then they changed the formula or something (I even called the company) because they taste and smell like ass. I tried so hard to hide them in food, but he wouldn't take the new drops (and I bought 5 different packages, thinking some were just damaged). You can try the drops and see if he will take them, but be warned, it is syrupy and I would try to hide them in food if you can (nothing mushy, not even pudding?)
oh, and we didn't have to go back in for follow ups. Just told to try to get him to take the drops and increase his iron in his meals. sounded like a pretty common problem.
