Has anyone else had trouble with a Sears appliance installation? (long story)

Sears delivered our new refrigerator on Friday afternoon.  They cut the existing copper tubing that we had for our water line to replace with a plastic tube that the installer claimed was better than what we had.  He did not replace the entire copper tubing just what went into the fridge.  During that process he must have bent our copper back and forth enough to crack it.  He pushed the fridge back and we had no idea.  5 hours later my husband went down to our basement to find water coming through the ceiling and down the wall.  We have at least one piece of wallboard completely ruined not to mention the brand new carpet that was soaked with water.  We sucked what we could out of the carpet with the shop vac and have been running a dehumidifier (to suck the moisture out of the air) and a fan (to help dry the carpet) since Friday night.  I called Sears Friday and filed a damage claim.  Still have not heard back from anyone in their claims department.  Yesterday they sent another installation team out and they said they were not able to do anything because it was copper tubing and they do not work with copper tubing.  Basically they left we still do not have water to the new fridge nor do we have anything being done about our basement.  My husband has talked to the Sears store manager, who said someone should be calling us today (the claims department is not open on weekends).  We were on the phone most of yesterday afternoon with different people at Sears trying to get someone to resolve this problem.  Now I am at work constantly checking my voicemail at home to see if anyone has contacted us yet and of course nothing.

Just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and if things were resolved.

  • oh my mom had a field day with them getting a washer/dryer installed for my grandmother...they caused a gas leak. It took alot of persistence (basically when someone said "i can't help you" my mom would say "then I need to talk to you supervisor" all the way up the line...it took weeks
  • Ugh, what a nightmare!! I hope you can get them to fix the damage they caused.

We had Sears install our gas range with no trouble. And I think they installed our fridge with no trouble also. DH installed the dishwasher we bought from them. So I guess we've been lucky...

  • We have been very fortunate in the past as well.  We have had other appliances installed without any problem, so I never would have expected this.  Someone from the claims department has finally contacted my husband so I am waiting to hear back from him on what they will be able to do for us.  I am hoping that this is resolved soon!
  • Yikes, that sucks.  We didn't have any issues with our Sears installs.  We had them do all of the kitchen appliances but we installed the washer and dryer ourselves.  I hope they get it fixed soon.

  • OMG yes!!!  We had a guy come out and install our garage door opener.  We went way up the chain before we got the garage door opener working/replaced because the original guy broke it.  It was bad.  Def stay on top of them!!!

  • After having disaster deliveries for our front loaders, on the SIXTH try, DH told them to just leave the washer and dryer and he would hook up himself.  Everytime they delivered it looked like the machine had been through a war, or they just didn't show up because we were outside of their area.

  • ME, no. But my CW just had a horrible experience with washer/dryer delivery. He ordered them in store, tried to set up a delivery, and they kept either cancelling on him or not showing up. After like three weeks of this, he called to tell them forget it, cancel my order, and the woman was like "Ok. Thank you for shopping at Sears." He was like "uh, no idiot, I'm not shopping with you. I am going somewhere else....get it?" (To me, not to her). It sounds like their customer service people are just sucktastic.
