Does your office have a fragrance policy? I really wish ours did. We have several employees here who prefer to bathe in cologne rather than soap and water. He makes my eyes water and nose run. I hate it. He claims its a cultural thing. Remind me never to adopt his culture.
Re: Fragrance Policy
We don't have one here. Has anyone said anythng to him about it?
I did work one place where a cw put on super strong scented lotion constantly and our boss talked to her.
I would think most people would be willing to compromise in some way.
Huh, I was not aware that bathing in cologne was a cultural thing. Thats....interesting.
I feel you though. One of my CWs used to come in and leave a cologne trail behind him wherever he went and it was so nasty. Actually, two CWs used to do this, but both have stopped because people started making loud complaints and closing their office doors to keep the smell out. Is your CW a smoker? Sometimes smokers have lessened senses of smell and don't realize how heavy they are putting it on. Both of the cologne offenders here were smokers.
DH was telling me he works at a building with a fragrance policy.
I've made comments to him before, he says its a cultural thing of why he needs to wear so much.
what culture is this?
also - has anyone actually told him they are bothered by it?
I think most offices need a fragrance policy. People have no clue how their overly fragrantness (like my fake word) affects others. Most fragrances give me excruciating migraines, some give me asthma attacks. It's sucky.
If you have a dress code policy, there may be something there. This was copied directly from our dress code:
The use of perfume, fragranced hand lotions or body sprays, cologne or after-shave, particularly in areas where patient care is provided, are discouraged as any of these items may cause respiratory problems for patients, visitors or co-workers.He's Nigerian.
yes several people have asked him to tone down the cologne that it irritates their allergies. Someone actually had to be reassigned to a new pod because of the smell.
It's common courtesy not to use too much cologne.
Has your boss or HR said anything? That's really inappropriate and rude for him to keep wearing it if people have told him its bothering their allergies and he's refused.
