High School Graduation Announcements

If you receive one in the mail, you should send a check, right? How much? I received one for my old manager's daughter. I do not think I've ever met her daughter (they live 3 hours away but my old manager would commute to the office a couple days a week) but I would say my old manager and I are friends.

We don't work together anymore but we did meet up for dinner with other old co-workers a few weeks ago, she and I are facebook friends, we send annual Christmas cards etc. I know I'm going to maintain the relationship with my old manager b/c I really like her personally, and I'd love to work for her again. I'm thinking I should send a check to her daughter and I'm thinking $50 is appropriate. What do you think?

That's generous like BoomBoom said. I'd send $20 gift card to Target so they could get stuff for their Dorm Room.

I'm giving my Step-Brother $50 for his HS Graduation.

Another vote for WAY generous. A $20 gc to target should suffice. I don't view announcement (baby, grad, wedding) = check.

Yeah this would be more my speed. I feel like $10 these days may be a slap in the face to some people (though I don't think so). It's amazing to me how much money people are expected to spend on each other. I just wasn't raised to give so extravagantly with money.

Yeah, I think it's actually a little nervy to send a grad announcement to someone you personally have never met. Of course, my mom wouldn't allow me to even send them to all my extended family, so that shows how I was brought up.

I also didn't send announcements to people I didn't know well. I did send to extended family but there was never any expectation in my family to send money. A card yeah, but people didn't even always do that. I only got gifts/money my parents and grandparents.
