I got screwed at work today :(

Last Friday, I was informed that I'd be a "traveling" gifted teacher next year, meaning I'll be at my current school 4 days a week and at another school 1 day. As of Friday, this school was going to be the school where Robin works, where I use to work, which happens to be about 5 mins from where we live vs. my 30 min drive. So, not super happy about having to do more work in the same amount of days for the same pay, but looking on the bright side and looking forward to seeing some old friends regularly and having a good carpool buddy. :)

This morning, I get an email that I'll be going to another school instead and doing the testing for that school. Only the testing, one day a week. This is not anywhere even close to as good. Basically, the teacher at that school is giving me her pee on work. She'll be doing nothing but teaching. I'll be testing literally 1/2 of the time. I will have to do all of the paperwork for 2 schools. I might cry. I'm ending one school year already dreading the next. Sad

I'm thinking about making a stink about it. I'm just letting it sink in more before I 100% decide.

  • I think if it really bothers you/upsets you then you need to speak up before you start to resent your job.
  • That sounds awful, I'm so sorry to hear it.  Bureaucracy is definitely the worst part of teaching (my mom and aunt were/are teachers).  I can't imagine doing half of your time with only that, since people become teachers for the kids, not for the paperwork.

Can you go to 80%?  I have some friends who are doing this with law firm work, and I know that the district my mom taught in allowed % work.

No 80%. I wish! They'd have to hire a whole person to fill that 1 day position. It's got to be covered within the county.

We may just be having a go around about me covering some of her classes and her doing the testing. I'd really much rather be at the other school, though. :-/

That stinks! It's not fair for you to do all of the b!tch work. If you do have to go to that school, it would be more worth it if you taught while she did the testing.

That really stinks DD. Something similar happened to my sister and it really drained her. I would definitely ask if there was any way to shift things around for you.

P.S. What ever happened with the kid that threatened Robin?
