We are taking a lot of these transitions a little slower for Monk because I am not sure how he is going to do with transitions and changes (they can be super hard on LOs with Autism)....but yesterday I stopped at a second hand store and they had a decent looking blue car bed for 50 bucks with a bunk board, so I bought it. the bunk board needs a couple of braces replaced, Im sure the beds are jumped on something crazy. Other than that it is in respectable condition.
We have started laying him down drowsy/awake and letting him fall asleep on his own. That has been going really well, when he gets used to doing that then I am going to start trying to work on figuring out a way to transition him into the toddler bed. I think once we finally get him in and used to his therapists they will have some techniques and ideas for me as well to help us get into all these new big boy things with as little problems as possible. Optimistically we would like him in the Toddler bed by the end of the summer but I am open to it taking a little longer than that since #2 will be in our room in the PnP for a few weeks after she/he is born.
Re: Toddler bed.....woot!
yeah we thought it would be a good idea to work on that before we put him in a bed that he will realize he can get in and out of without any help....I dont think it will be so bad...but I want to take it really slow.
We got the diagnosis in February or March, I cannot remember right off...and our insurance is dragging its dang effing feet on approving his therapy...so we are working with Help me Grow right now as much as possible getting us all some ideas on how to get him communicating better and whatnot. Its been a little rough, and I think that is partially due to my emotions being out of whack anyway with the pregnancy. Thank you for the offer, I will be sure to let you know about talking with your friends.
I am so impressed with how well he has done with us putting him to down awake...and he is very quickly coming to the time when he will not need naps...a day or two a week he is already missing them....but its all a new experience for us and we are working it the best we know how.
This exactly!! I don't think Abby will ever want to leave the crib! I am so ready to get the crib out of the house! The girls share a room so I eventually want to do bunk beds.
