well that's depressing...
Word of advice: don't look up a family member's average salary for their career on Salary.com. Even if you know that that's just the average, and it doesn't mean they actually make that, and even if you know said relative has beaucoup student loans and and... yeah whatever. That's still depressing. I'm never going to make that much money.
Trying to figure out what you want to do "when you grow up" and you're already grown up kinda sucks.

Average starting salary in my field is double what I'll be making now. I hope that that number is inflated by people who live in the more expensive states, or else I'm just pathetic.
Even with a higher degree I will never make more than my dad. Human services jobs don't have the money in them to actually pay people what they're worth.
My H thinks it's so weird how civilians don't know what each other makes. With the military they all know how much each other makes. (Technically with teaching it was the same way).
I'm not sure which way I like better. I kind of wish I knew what our recruiter made here. At my old job when I found out what some of the people made I was irate!!
