So over it re: my car (A calm, peaceful vent)

The car (we're a one car family) keeps blwoing the ignition fuse.  My stepdad was sure it was the defroster fuse (it is connected to the same ground wire, so when the defroster gets stuck, it completes the circuit thus blowing...my ignition - I'd be much happier if the defroster would keep blowing, but not my luck this week.)  He disabled the defroster, but the brake lights, turn signals, outside electrical isn't working again today.

I was very lucky that we discovered it was blowing on the way to work, so we didn't turn the car off at all until I had purchased 4 more fuses.  I am certain that there is a wiring issue in the steering column (we keep smelling the short inside the car before the fuse blows).  The mechanic we go to keeps banker's hours, so I need to go and get it taken car of TODAY.  This means that I need to cancel my Dr. Appt. - which my mom keeps screaming at me about.  "You can't cancel your appointment.  you need to go to the Dr."  I will.  Tomorrow.  The office has really been good at getting me rescheduled.  I also need to go to work - it's the only job I have and there aren't too many better offers out there, so, um, not showing up to work isn't really an option, either.

I keep freaking out, though, because in my previous car, NOTHING was EVER a cheap, quick fix.  NOTHING.  And I am convinced/traumatized that this car will be the same thing.  We work 30 minutes away from where we live, so it's not like I can walk to work or anything.

At this point, I am trying to take it a moment at a time, and just breathe, because if I keep worrying about the next ten minutes, and the one after that, and what happens tomorrow, then I am only going to have a stroke.

Thanks for getting this far, if you did.  I'm fine, I just needed to get this off my chest without someone screaming at me about how I am hurting the babies.

Cupcakes for all!

  • I'm sorry.  Car trouble sucks big time.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that's a really simple, inexpensive problem.
  • Yuck. I'm sorry! I hate car issues..

What?  Why?  Isn't that a brand new bike?

bleh. No, it's not brand new. It's a 99.. The throttle cable broke or something happened to it. I don't know all the ins & outs. It wouldn't start after he pulled over and shut it off. so we sat on the side of the road and waited for someone w/ a trailer to come..

i was pleasantly surprised that 2 hillsborough sheriffs stopped to make sure we were okay.

  • I'm sorry!  Car troubles are the worst.  If you ever need a mechanic that works non-banker hours let me know.  We have a guy that does great work and does a lot of it at night.
