Natural Disasters Poll (non-clicky)
The Tornado talk has made me think more and more about how small we really are, and what a force Mother Nature really is on us.
Has anyone been involved in any kind of weather related natural disaster?
What happend?
What did you do?
What kind of damage was involved?
Would it cause you to move to a different part of the country because of it?
Re: Natural Disasters Poll (non-clicky)
What happend? We've been invloved major river flooding
What did you do? We were rescued by Firefighters out of our home in a boat (on more than one occassion)
What kind of damage was involved? Water was about 4 feet into the house and all the contents were destroyed
Would it cause you to move to a different part of the country because of it? Sadly no, my parents still live in the house, it's the home I grew up in and they're not going to sell it anytime soon. We've been though this so many times, I guess like anything else it just become second nature,

Has anyone been involved in any kind of weather related natural disaster? yes, 8 tornado's
What happend? I've been in our house, at a car dealership and in a car.
What did you do? In our house we hid in the closet. The car dealership we were shoved under a conference table in a totally glass encased room(there was nowhere else to go). The car - we drove in a ditch. These all happened before I was 5 and when we lived in Oklahoma.
What kind of damage was involved? House usually had damage - worst was we completely lost our roof. Fence was replaced more times than I can count. Car was down the street once. Dealership was destroyed (this was by far the most devastating and traumatic one for me). Car was fine.
Would it cause you to move to a different part of the country because of it? No. We did move but it was because my dad transferred and we moved to Dallas. We still get tornado's. Even if there is a remote chance of one, Shrek and I are in the bathtub with a weather radio. I've slept in it before. Maybe I should seek counseling...ha

Has anyone been involved in any kind of weather related natural disaster? I was in a hurricane when I was like, 6. Had a tornado blow through town last year, but it was the west side of town and didn't drop again where I was at.
What happened? With both events, we had plenty of warning - so we were able to prepare and get to shelter.
What did you do? With the hurricane, we waited it out at our house. We boarded windows, had emergency stashes and slept in the living room until it passed. With the tornado, I had plenty of time to get JJ and get to a shelter on campus.
What kind of damage was involved? No structural damage with either, thank goodness. Lots of downed trees and power lines though - with the hurricane, I was out of school for three days.
Would it cause you to move to a different part of the country because of it? Nope. Colorado gets its own share of weather [mainly in the winter]...figured we'll deal with this stuff anywhere we go. I will admit, I'm ready to be out of Oklahoma during April and May...I'm sick of tornado threats.
Has anyone been involved in any kind of weather related natural disaster? Yes. I've dealt with a hurricane, earthquakes (does that count?), and fires. And my parents have been through two large fires within the last 8 years.
What happend? For the hurricane, I was in DC. I was stuck in a hotel for one night, and then our house didn't have power for several days.
The last earthquake I dealt with was Easter of 2010. I was at work, between shows, and the theatre shook. The travelling people with the show thought it was awesome, and the local management froke out.
In 2003 and 2007 my parents' neighborhood was part of large wildfires. They were evacuated in 2003, and I was living in DC. That was scary for me because I had access to so little info. In 2007, they should have been evac'ed, but never got the call. Fortunately, there was no damage to their house either time, but there was to houses as close as a block over. In 2007 I was living here, but away from the fire areas. I just dealt with cancelling concerts and the aftermath of that.
What did you do? Mostly just made sure my loved ones were okay.
What kind of damage was involved? Thankfully, nothing major for any of the stuff I was involved with.
Would it cause you to move to a different part of the country because of it? Nope. Earthquakes and fires are easier to deal with (in my mind) than tornados and floods and hurricanes.
