A Foodie/Cooking question

At a farmers market in Boston this weekend, I picked up this jar of raw honey. It's completely unlike anything I've tried before. It's got a super-creamy texture and has really strong tastes of lavender and clover.

I really want to do something with it that features the product but I'm coming up a little short on ideas.

What would you do with it?

Re: A Foodie/Cooking question

  • This is my southern side coming out, but pour it over warm buttered biscuits.  It is AMAZING.

I've also made this and it seems like the flavors in your honey would be complementary: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/chocolate-honey-almond-tart-recipe/index.html

I'm not from the south but I LOVE biscuits with honey.

The only thing I could think of making a frosting with it.

I've never made a frosting with honey, but I'll check it out! I can see a cupcake with honey flavored frosting being really delicious! Thanks!

  • I cook/bake with honey pretty often (I go through a 32oz container every 2 months...), but if it's really that good, I would just use it, not really cook with it. I like the tart idea Mary suggested, and definitely pouring it over biscuits (although when I'm in the south, people always look at me weird for putting honey on biscuits, they only want sausage gravy). Lately I've been putting honey (boring store bought honey) on toast.

Honey as an ice cream topping is kind of crazy-good. I use it like normal people use hot fudge or caramel.

I'll report back if I think of anything else! And I'm totally jealous.

Sorry I can't recommend a recipe but I seem to recall an episode of Cupcake Wars when they used honey as an ingredient.  I'm sure there's a recipe out there. Or you could just use it as a drizzle on top of a cupcake or cake instead of caramel.

    Have fun experimenting! :)

  • Yes, yes. I would just pour the honey over biscuits.

I also make a fruit salad with a honey dressing. Something similar would be really good and a bit more healthy than the other suggestions. :)

I do a little honey on toast with peanut butter. I just felt weird about dumping some in tea when the texture and taste is so amazing.

I've never put honey on ice cream, but I'm going to try that immediately when I get home!

  • I would do biscuits too because I'm Southern like that.

ETA: I would also put it on some fried chicken because I like honey on my chicken.

  • I think it would be great drizzled over brie cheese.  You could also make little apps with tostadas, pear and brie and drizzle the honey over it.  Goat cheese could work as well.  I had this at our anniversary dinner.
