How much was your most recent BGE bill??
We just got ours on Saturday and it was $155. I'm a tad nervous what the summer will bring because we did not have our heat on at all during the last billing cycle.
So how much did you fork over to BGE (or PEPCO or SMECO) last month?
Re: How much was your most recent BGE bill??
Woo hoo--the board is active today
Our latest bill was $123...man was I happy!!
woah im freaking
we do budget billing and its 250
I think it was 195.
Its still high, but way better than 400+
The bill we just got was 113, after havign the AC on for 2 days and turning back off. The two bills before that were 93 and 98. I'm bracing myself for it to swing back up to the high-mid 200's.

Ours was right under $100.
350?? Is this gas+electric, or just electric? We have oil heat, so ours is just the electric.

We just got ours and I was so happy--only $87! We had the windows open a lot last month.
Over the winter, the bills were over $200...

Any energy efficiency tips? Our obvious culprits are my excessively long hot showers and the fact that neither of us ever turn the computer off. do things like that really make a huge difference, or is there some bigger fish we could fry? (not that we won't fix those little things...but I wonder if there's something we're missing)

I've seen your house and that sounds pretty insane. Its basically a ranch right?
You should check to see if your attic is insulated correctly and your house is brick right? That should cut down on it too.

We think our dryer is inefficient--I'm having to run it longer to get the clothes dry (hence recent line drying). I'm also wondering if the fridge is inefficient--I've seen condensation on a few of the jars inside as soon as I open it. DH thinks I've been cooking and baking a lot more but I don't see how last month would be different from, say, the holiday season.
The big appliances are your first culprits (aside from heating and cooling), then habits (like long showers or not turning off lights), then vampires. In sleep mode, I think computers are pretty efficient. I have been unplugging my laptop while I'm not using it because it's old and I know the battery lasts all of like 30 minutes now which I think means it's drawing more from the outlet than normal.
Are you on all CFL bulbs?

Yes, it's a rancher. The basement is finished, so we do need to heat and cool that as well.
Our HVAC is also older, we just don't have the cash to replace it right now. But now I'm wondering if it's $250, not $350. My h also pays that bill. I should probably check, lol.
