Re: Stress.....

  • yoga, meditation.

In a moment of stress, I just take a deep breath and try to not be overwhelmed.

IMO/E, stress if rarely productive so I just try to think of it that way - is this helping or hurting me?

  • You could talk to a therapist without necessarily going on medication.

When I get really stressed, it's usually because I am too busy because I never say no... so I will take a week or so where I try not to feel bad saying no to events, favors, etc. and making more time for myself.

  • Exercise, doing something that requires concentration/focus (like crocheting for me), because then my thoughts kind of empty, cleaning, etc.

In general when I get stress I tend to channel that stress into what I can't control. If I can't control the fact that we need to pay 300 to get something fixed on our car, but I can control the mountains of laundry that are also bothering me, I do the laundry, you know?

  • Exercise like yoga and running

Therapy is actually great for learning stress management techniques, and finding/addressing underlying issues that cause stress

Granted, I'm a huge advocate for therapy (it's my career and I've personally benefited quite a bit from it), but I do think it's very helpful

I'm not very good at meditation, but that works well for many people too!

  • Running, yoga, cleaning.  Not all at the same time though!

I also like to journal if I'm completely freaking out.  It soothes my mind.

If all else fails, I'll relax in the tub with a bottle of wine.

  • I love exericising and running.  They help.  Lately, I have been stressed because I am not getting as much sleep as I guess my body wants.  If you can take a nap!  Usually when I wake up I am so refreshed that I feel like a new person.

  • A high intensity exercise class like Spinning or Kickboxing.

  • Good luck on finding something. I myself just started talking to a therapist last week. I go for my second appointment tomorrow. I am really hoping that the therapy helps. I am not sure about the whole yoga thing for me but i have heard tons of raves about how it has helped people.

  • I agree with some of the pp's... I've found yoga to be a great way to clear my mind. Going for a walk is an easy way for me to unwind and stop stressing over the little things.

  • I go running or hiking with the dogs.

A bath and a good book?

I highly recommend the book The Happiness Project, it's about finding what truly makes you happy and learning how to fit those things in to a stressful life. Each month for a year is a new challenge, it's really interesting and helped me manage stress a lot.
