Doctor Update - Still Stressed

So of course - abnormal pap. I am so freaking over this!!! I honestly hoped that with my D&C that I'd basically have everything cleaned out and I'd be back to good.

The strange thing to me is that the nurse that called said that I had minor this time (good), but they want me to come in for a Colposcopy on June 9th. I've had this a few times, but I feel like they usually waited and repeated in a month or so. Different doctor,so maybe that's why or could be b/c I now have a history of abnormal paps. Either way I guess I need to go b/c I definitely don't want to wait it out and end up with cervical cancer, but still. Ugh!!!!

I did call them back to ask about the Colposcopy while TTC. Haven't heard back yet. I just kind of froze when they called and forgot to ask.

(Oh, and funny side note here, or not funny...I'm not sure. My mom has convinced herself that one of my exboyfriends gave me HPV. I didn't want to tell her that I was definitely sexually active in college and could have had it way before him undetected so I let her just think it was him. I have continued with this for 7 years, and likely will forever).

Re: Doctor Update - Still Stressed

  • i'm sorry you have to deal with this. medical issues are never fun...especially when it comes to TTC and things that might be a hinderance to it.

I had an abnormal pap once due to HPV....i had a boyfriend in college that cheated on me and told me that i should get checked, bc the girl had HPV. funny thing was that i did get checked then and nothing came up. fast forward to my 1st annual after getting married and BAM! oh hi, you have HPV. try explaining THAT to your new husband.

  • 75 percent of the reproductive-age population has hpv. if you have been sexually active at all, you probably have it.

i'm sorry you're going through this. i haven't had any abnormals since my LEEP but i think if i did i would be freaking too. it doesn't seem fair! i'm sending vibes.

Me:39 Dx LPD, Fibroid, AMA and all that goes with that. H:37 Dx low motility and low morphology. TTC since 3/12. Clomid 8/12 and 9/12: BFN. 11/12 on a break for Myomectomy sched. 11/26. Resume TTC early 2013.
  • I'm so sorry you have to go through all this. Sending good vibes your way~~

  • It's so common, but still so scary. My old co-worker had a friend that let it go and go and go and then got cervical cancer and passed away so I never miss an appoointment.

The nurse just called me back and told me that the reason they're doing a colposcopy this time is just because I was normal and then had a change. It's just their standard procedure. She did tell me that I was the absolute lowest on the spectrum so that made me feel better. I also asked her about why the D&C didn't really "clear it all out" b/c I guess I was assuming it had with the normal.

She said that once you have HPV you have it. Your body heals itself sometimes, but you can always get an abnormal pap your whole life. She said it's nothing to really be alarmed at at this stage, it's more of a precaution to do the colposcopy. Since we're TTC they'll only do biopsy if absolutely necessary and if I am pregnant by the time I go they won't biopsy at all.

I feel better after talking to her the second time.

  • I hope the procedure goes well. Good luck.
  • Thanks, girls! At this point I'm just so over everything involving my vagina, uterus, cervix, whatev. All of it is working my last nerve.
