DH and I love having people over. Fortunately and unfortunately, our group of closest friends makes up 14 people including us. Fortunate because it's a huge blessing to have that many well loved friends. Unfortunate because we can't fit them all into our little house and are always having to decide who NOT to invite over and that stinks.
Last year FIL had a lot of junk in our backyard. (he lived here before us) He slowly moved it out but by the time it was all cleaned up it was getting cold. Now that it's cleaned up and getting warmer, I'm thinking we can start having little outside get togethers now that the weather's getting warm and we won't have to limit who can come over.
So with that long rambling intro... the cement space is almost all taken up by our potted trees and plants and rabbits and the rest of the space is grass. We do have one table with 4 seats on the cement. I'm thinking of finding some nice/fun folding tables and chairs that we can put out on the grass area when we have people over. We have one light back there but I'm also thinking about putting mason jars out (we have a ton from our wedding) with lights in them for more fun lighting.
What would you do with a space like that?
And, whether you have ideas for that kind of space or not... what are your favorite features of your backyard and/or what things would you add if you could?
Re: Backyards
Does your table have an umbrella? They have all sorts of hangable umbrella lights that are adorable. My parents have a wood burning hot tub at their cabin and my sisters and I got my Mom some shepherd hooks and lanterns to put around that to give it some (Candle) light and they also have some metal "Tiki" style torches around their patio that they put citronella oil in for some bug control but also give off light.
You could paint or stain the concrete to make it more "patio" if it isn't giving you that vibe.
A free standing fire pit or chimney always says "party" to me.
DH and I registered for some break-down-able yard games that would maybe work for you too (Target!). We have ladder golf and bocce ball which are always fun for groups. Beanbags are always fun too!
