Can I have my Monday Moan on Tuesday?
I had a hell of a day today.
The band teacher's brother was killed in an auto accident on 5/6, and understandably, she's a wreck. She's basically taking off for the rest of the year, and they've finally (as in yesterday) got a leave replacement in there for her. What's so stressful about this is that the orchestra teacher and I have basically been doing her job as well as ours. We have NYSSMA Majors (a competition but it reflects on us!) this week - orchestra was yesterday, band was today, and I'm tomorrow. Oh, and add onto that that we have an out-of-state competition a week from Friday, a parent meeting for it Thursday night, and because we're a man down, we're completely behind.
Then, the AV guy basically blindsided me today and said that the drama club kids had messed with a piece of equipment, and that it now had to be stored in the wings. We have NO wing space to begin with, and during Drama Club season, that's just not an option. Aside from the fact that we need the wing space for oh, I don't know, KIDS and SETS, it's MORE likely to get damaged by the crewbies who live in the wings. But, he didn't want to hear it, and then sent me a nasty email saying how I don't listen and I don't hear him. Now I want to burst - I have worked SO F*CKING HARD at being collegial but there's a difference between being collegial and being walked on.
I found him after school and we talked it through, and I said that while most of the year, that piece can live in that wing, from January to March it needs a different home. He is refusing to see that and it's going to get ugly, I can just feel it. I am just so ready for this year to be over and I'm exhausted and stressed and can't take much more.
Now, to add to that, my Select group is the group that's going to the out-of-state competition next week and I never get to see them all together, and at today's rehearsal, they SUCKED. They're so NOT ready for competition, and they're not putting this first. And I called them out on it today. I'm sorry, I know you have sports, but it doesn't take 20 minutes to change! I have sports kids that are there in 5-7. Not 20. I have Tuesday and next Thursday and I'm just out of time and I was to be done. I'm mentally done. Is it the end of June yet?
Oh, and apparently, the sellers JUST signed yesterday on the contract, so I can't even get everything started until I have the executed contract in my hands, which pushes closing further and further back. ::sigh:: Can I just go hide in a hole for a little while?

Aw sorry you're having such a sucky time. Just take a little time for yourself (on the weekend maybe?) and do something relaxing, or nothing at all! You totally deserve it!
I get the music kids not devoting the necessary time to practices and things. That always made me so angry when I was in school (choir president and such), because they always made it out that it was not as important as the sports. Then dont do it at all! Ugh!
Also, with the house, our sellers pushed back our closing over a month and we still got the house, so I would not be too concerned. The big thing is that the seller signed the contract! Woo hoo!!

I'm sorry you're having to deal with all of this, and I'm sorry that your co-worker is havign to deal with the loss of her brother. The end of the year is stressful enough without all this.
The arts can be so rewarding and yet so soul sucking at the same time. I hear you about no priorities. I have had to both pull a kid out of the locker room and call a kid at home to tell him that I don't care if the new Halo just came out it's DRESS REHEARSAL WEEK!!!
I hope your A/V coworker gets it soon and starts working with you. Hang in there!
