PSA: tornados

In case you don't already have it on, turn on your tv or radios. Tornados just hit El Reno and are headed for the OKC metro area.

    So, I didn't like that.

Neither did my dogs. One of them gets so scared when it starts storming.

These storms sounded worse than usual, so I grabbed the dogs and went to the basement at work.  A couple other coworkers were there too- and they also brought their dogs. Our only interior closet would be a very tight fit for me, the 2 dogs, and DH. Plus it has a mirror attached to the inside of the door. Tongue Tied

At one point, it was headed towards my house. The arrow showing movement was literally directly over our house. The sky was so dark. The thunder was a low rumble. It was not like any other storm. H was trying to come home but was in traffic. Cells calls weren't going through. I'm pregnant so it was a worse feeling since I was also responsible for her.
  • Pretty sure this was the longest and scariest day of my life.

Same here.  Not to be over dramatic but I really felt like we might die today.  They kept saying our intersection on TV and one of the weathermen said "get underground, a closet isn't going to cut it".

Thank goodness it really didn't do anything at our house but our neighborhood is scattered with lots of debris and insulation that it picked up somewhere along the way.  I'm just very thankful we weren't hit.  We will definitely be investing in a storm shelter very soon!

No dramatic at all--I felt the same way. Especially once all the texts starting coming in (I was away from tv by that point), I knew it had to be bad. Then even in the cellar I was terrified--we could hear the tornado over us and the kids with us were so freaked out, then my mom texted me and said our town took a direct hit. I was like "yep, just heard it". When we came out of the cellar one of the women with us found her house across the road destroyed. Seeing her see her house like that was one of the most emotional things I've ever seen. So thankful we're all safe.

I've been looking at cellars online since yesterday morning, it's definitely moved to the top oft priority list!
  • I feel like I missed it all. We left work early and packed a tornado bag. We put the cats in a bedroom on the west side of the house and the dogs in the hall. Then we went to Moore High school for shelter. It broke my heart leaving the dogs and cats at home by themselves! We sat in the wrestling gym at Moore High School (it's underground) for about an hour. We didn't have a TV or radio so I didn't see any of the coverage.

It amazes me how much some people complain. There were probably about 100+ people in that wrestling gym and there was no a/c on. Some people next to us were complaining that they were thirsty. One said "Next time we need to bring bottled water." And the other said, "Yeah, I thought they'd at least have bottled water or something for us here." Then they were complaining about how hot it was. They said, "Can't they at least turn on the air conditioning?" And then a little bit later one of them said, "There were 2 big fans in the gym, I don't know why they aren't bringing them down here." Come on people, if you don't think "they" are treating you right, you can go back to your house to your a/c and bottled water and hope the tornado doesn't blow you away! Sheesh, they should just be thankful they had somewhere underground to go.

We were freaking out when they had our street on the tv for the path of the tornado. Very thankful we had a storm shelter. I will tell you to go a size larger than the smallest model they have and you will be very thankful. Our's is larger than the IL's and it makes a huge difference. We had 3 people and 2 dogs in ours last night plus supplies and we were pretty comfortable.
