WTF is up with my inability to call my friend?? Her birthday is the campout this weekend that I have no plans to attend - i adore HER but not the drama! Or the gasmoney! Or the heat! I don't wanna goooooooooooo!
Plusandalso, we have friends to entertain on Sat, a different group is hosting a pool party (plus they live near a lake in Cherokee) on Sunday, we've already broke the budget for May and its a holiday weekend!

Haley. I have a Canon G12 that I absolutely love. It's got a lot of capability of a DSR. It has a lot of the same properties of a DSR without the hassle of carrying around all the different lenses. I have a Nikon, with all the extra lenses and sometimes having all that can be a hassle.
WTF, I'm not sure how I am going to get everything I need done today. I have company coming for dinner tonight and I have to straighten the place, finish cooking.
I believe that's the one mrB wants for me too. He has a Nikon D300 and its a BAMF fer sure, but its heavy. And you have to change the lenses. And its heeeeeeeeavy.

eeeeennnteresting....i will definitely mention this one to DH, seems like a good bridge between what we've had, and what we want to get in a few years.

The Canon G12 is a popular camera for people with DSLRs who want something a little smaller to carry around. The A9x (A95 now I think) is also a popular choice. Check out dpreview.com for tons of info.
If you do decide to go DSLR, I highly recommend the Canon T2i (2010 model) or even the T1i (2009). Both are a lot cheaper now and may not be much more than some P&S cameras. I just beg you to please take a little time and learn how to use it and not use it on Auto. In most cases. Auto on a DSLR with a kit lens simply turns it into a heavy P&S.
Of course, Nikon equivalents are also out there, but I'm not familiar with the models. If you want a DSLR, take the time to go to a store where you can "play" with Nikons and Canons to decide which feels better in your hands and what menus are more intuitive to you. There are others (Sony, etc.), but Nikon and Canon are the top two.
The Nikon D3100 is the entry level DSLR model. Nikon just announced the D5100, and it looks really nice. It will even do HD 1080p movies. I bought a D7000 a couple of months ago and am very happy with it so far. I am using my existing lenses with it.
