Middle Name Issues

We're having middle name issues

I want Piper Jean. Jean is my middle name, named after my deceased aunt. Jeanne is my MIL's name). However, my nutty SIL's are huge into nicknames and want to call her PJ (we even have a female cousin named BJ). Gah! I do NOT want the PJ nickname sticking and I don't think there is anyway without being a nutjob of forcing them to call her Piper.

The other option is Piper Lynn.

Thoughts?

Suzanne is my middle name! I didn't know other people used that.

Do you have any other names that mean something to you? A family name? There's always the option of telling your family to f*ck off when they use a nickname...although that hasnt' gone well for people calling my nephew Henry, Hank, and his brother Max, Maxie.

  • Greg is anti-family name, so I'll have a hard time convincing him of a blatant family name. He's "giving in" to me on Jean, but I don't think he's thrilled about it.

  • I like Piper Lynn a lot, but honestly, if you like Jean use Jean. Just because one branch of the family uses a nickname doesn't mean it'll stick in general. My family and most of my friends call me Riss. One cousin (and thereafter his parents and sister) called me Rissa as a kid. No one else picked up on that version. I've also been called Larry or Lars at various points by various people, but those didn't catch on either.
  • I'm with L on this one.  My initials were AAA.  I got a lot of razzing about it and nicknames such as "energizer bunny" or "bunny" but none stuck.  Ash is the only one that people use now.  I would just keep reinforcing to the in law's if/when they use PJ that her name is Piper not PJ.  If they keep doing it, I would consider a come to Jesus meeting or go all BSC crazy on them.

Sono showed no baby and teeny tiny sac. Waiting to M/C naturally.

  • Name her Piper Jean, if they call her PJ just say, " her name is Piper, not PJ "
  • Use Jean. Some family members have asked if we're going to call Carly CJ (her middle name is Joyce). Um, nope!
  • I love the meaning behind Jean and that it is special to you. Lynn is just OK, IMO. I think over time the fam would hopefully get the hint and just call her Piper.
