I'm guilty of...

Breaking/slowing for animals.  Yes, I know it's so bad but I don't want to kill a cute little prairie dog, squirrel, cat, dog, etc.  I even slow down for birds.  Never used to slow down for birds until I actually hit one a few years ago.

Re: I'm guilty of...

  • I purposely try to hit prarie dogs, call me evil but those little things are horrible around here, like termites only bigger. Everything else I swerve for.

  • i would say that is normal.  not as normal?  i brake and swerve for the FROGS in the roads out here.  and in the spring there are thousands.  if i hit one, i cry.  not kidding.  cry and have to pull over to grieve.

  • When I had my Jeep Liberty, birds used to hit the side of my car while I was driving, all the time. I say all the time, but I had it for 3 years and 5 birds flew into the side of my car.

I once tried to brake for a possum and came REEEEALLLY close to getting into a serious car accident because of it, so I generally don't brake for any animals, except cats and dogs and deer (because deer will feck my car up!). I can't deal with cats and dogs that have been hit and killed. Someone's outside cat got hit in my neighborhood a few weeks ago and I went home, forced Kaycee to cuddle and cried.

One of my friends lives near a huge pond and for one week, every spring, his road is COVERED in frogs. Like, there's no way to even walk on the road without stepping one on. Needless to say . . . there are a lot of dead frogs there every year.

  • I swerve or slow down.  J does not.  If we're in his big truck, he guns it and aims for squirrels, etc.  He's tried this in my car and i have to remind him that hitting even a small animal in my car does a lot more than hitting it with his big a$$ truck.

  • I always slow down. Around here we have a lot of deer so at night I drive slower just in case. We have also had turkeys, bear, and foxes cross in front of us.

A couple years ago I hit/killed a raccoon and felt horrible. I couldn't slow down enough and couldn't avoid it with out causing a car accident. :(

I can see how they are a PITA.  They seem to infest a vacant house on the road we live on.  It gets so bad during the summer, they run all over the place and I have to drive really slow to avoid hitting any.

Around here they infest fields and pastures like crazy. Their holes get so big that they break legs on livestock and break axels on equipement.

  • Of course I brake for animals!  Better yet, I won't slow down but will just swerve around them if no one else is on the road with me.

A bird once banged into my windshield and cracked the grass.  I could see it with it's little wings spread out and it was awful.  I've had squirrels, racoons, deer, and wild turkeys all cross the path right in front of me and narrowly missed hitting them.  I hope I never do - the bird was bad enough =(.

  • Most roads that have animals on them around here are country areas so yes I brake when I see them. I have never hit anything. The birds get so close to my car sometimes I think I killed it but I guess not because I don't hear anything. We have alot of deer out in deer season so you kind of have to drive cautiously and with your brights on when possible.

I once hit a dear when I drove a mustang and all it did was chip some paint and he ran away, I just hit the back of his leg. It was like 5 in the morning (still dark) and I was leaving H house (then boyfriend) to go home and I started crying of course, I had to call him sobbing. haha Luckly I was only going about 45 so I could stop fast. My mom has hit 3 deer everytime messing up her cars to the point they were in the shop for atleast a week.

  • I will swerve or brake.  Never hit anything (knock on wood).  The other day some birds were stuck on the road while cars were stopped at the light.  I think one was injured and they were trying to figure out how to get away safely.  Thankfully they figured it out b4 the light changed, cuz they were walking/flapping right by tires.

Yesterday morning on the highway someone hit a deer.  The car and carcas were gone by the time I drove by, but it was a mess still.  Gross.

I think in a past life I was an animal that got hit by a vehicle.  I freak out when I see dead animals in the road.  So sad.  Sometimes I cry too :(

I do not look directly at dead animals in the road.  I hate looking at them all mangled, it's so sad.

  • Not planning meals (dinner) ahead of time and have gotten pretty much the same items as previous shopping trips. Why I don't think this is a huge deal it just confirms that I'm a true creature of habit. I'll be able to figure out what to have for dinner but seems like I feel more organized when I have dinner written down.
