CD moms re: detergent

I need some suggestions! I use Charlie's and it gets the diapers clean, but leaves a stink. I use Rockin Green Hard Rock and Funk Rock and Jovie is SO sensitive to it despite me putting it through 5+ rinses after I wash them. I feel like nothing is working anymore and with what the Rockin Green does to Jovie's poor bottom, I almost gave up on cloth diapering! Any advice?

Re: CD moms re: detergent

  • We used to use Charlie's but had a stink issue as well, so have stopped.  We now use Country Save powder.  We buy it from Little Padded Seats.  It seems to be working really well, after using it for at least 6 months now (or more, not sure-time is an irrelevant/intangible "idea" to me at this point).

The box has lasted a long time, and you can have a bit to try if you want!

  • You might just need to strip the batch and continue with charlies. I strip about once every other month or so just to keep from getting stinkies. It's a pet peeve of mine. We use rockin' green regular and it's okay but I've been known just to use Tide Free liquid too just because I do strip often anyway. (you're not supposed to use it b/c of build up.)

  • We were having the exact same problem with Rockin' Green so I started making my own detergent and using that. It's working sooooooo much better.

  • I've given up on rockin green. We have super hard water, so I'm switching to tide (original powder). One of Grier's teachers cds and she recommended eco sprouts. I would strip before you switch soaps.

  • I buy the bum genius detergent. Prior to that I bought Crunchy Clean but discovered (along with other users) that it had some issues. At that point I gave up looking for the 'cheapest' route and just bough the BG. I also use biokleen from time to time.
