if that doesn't count, i'd say being up at my parents cabin. nothing better!

  • Oh - this is hard!

I think it's the beginning of spring when you realize that there won't be winter for awhile and you can enjoy the outdoors.

    Anything counts.

Basically, I'm so annoyed at how negative things have been lately in/about Minnesota so I'm trying to come up with a list of awesome Minnesota things. I may do a blog post about it next week. (If I do I'll link anyone's comments to their blog and give everyone credit) I feel like we need some good press. And while no one reads my blog, it's all I've got :)

  • seasons that actually change every few months.  It makes for some great hobbies/outdoor activities and when you get bored of something, it is just about time for a new one!
  • Fall...love it!

And I agree...I've been staying out of the negative comments posts because I thoroughly enjoy living here...and if I didn't I'd move elsewhere.

  • Lake cabin culture.  Love it.

  • All the outdoors activities Minnesota's terrain and weather has to offer- snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding, disc golf, hiking, backpacking, water skiing, jet skiing, great state parks, rock climbing, etc.

  • I love a LOT of things about MN....the farmers markets, the lakes, LOVE me some Uptown, and the 50th and France area is adorable. We've got great restaurants, decent shopping, amazing theatre...so much awesome happens in MN. ;-)
  • Besides what everyone else already said (family being here, fall, lakes/outdoors...), I'd say the people/way of life here.  It's like a happy medium between the super fast paced East/West coast (I guess I only have personal experience with the west coast but I'm assuming the east is similar) and the odd pace that is the south.  I've traveled to new places over the last few years, and have been visiting CA every year for 10+ years...but still could never picture myself settling down anywhere but MN.  I'm a believer in the "Minnesota Nice."

  • cabins, lakes, fishing, colors in the fall, the first blooming plants of spring, seeing green after months full of white, I've been born and raised in MN, Target Field, State Fair....

  • I love the universal celebratory feeling when spring finally FINALLY arrives.  Those first warm sunny days when everyone in the state seems to suddenly be cheerful... like a big winter weight has been lifted from our shoulders :)

I will also add that I think the more you love a place, the more disappointed you may be to see changes that you think will detract from the quality of life there.  Being critical of a particular change or policy or legislature (or insert gripe here) doesn't mean you don't love where you live... If you love where you live, you'll want to actively maintain those things you love, and constantly strive to improve areas that you aren't satisfied with.  I think that's true, regardless of political persuasion.

YES! Add that to my list too ;-)

  • The variety of things to do. Even if you're in the heart of the city, you're not too far away from either nature or nightlife.
  • Movies in the park, all the libraries, and Farmers' Markets.

    This.  No question.

  • I love the State Fair but I'd have to say what I love BEST is how BOUNTIFUL yet SMALL the cities are.  Bountiful in terms of shopping, theatre, culture, nature..... yet SMALL so it's not a nightmare to drive anywhere, doesn't take hours in rush hour, and you can go from one end of the metro to the other easily.

So many cities that have what we have are just massive, impossible to get around, expensive, and parking is hellish.
